Top singers featured in OPM Fair 2011
MANILA, Philippines - The Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM) is set to convene this year’s biggest assembly of singers and music artists for the OPM Fair 2011 to be held at the Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City on Oct. 11.
Themed Ang Himig Natin Noon at Ngayon, the day-long event is free and open to the public. It features a music trade fair with CD launches and sale, videoke competition and duets with popular OPM stars, OPM-themed performances by choirs, marching and rock bands and rondallas, government agency booths offering public services, and an evening gala concert with top OPM singing stars.
With the assistance of Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan and Mayor Herbert Bautista, the project aims to drum up media and public support for the popularization and continuing patronage of Original Pinoy Music. It is also supported by the Armed Forces of the Philippines, PAGCOR, Puregold, Tanduay, Dr. Vicky Belo, Intel Philippines and WAVE Sound and Music Company.
“We intend to generate public awareness on our very own Original Pinoy Music through this industry-wide collaboration. We will have local music artists working with producers, record labels, promoters and outlets, together with music lovers,” expressed OPM president Ogie Alcasid.
OPM was established in 1986 and is now on its 25th year of promoting the welfare and patronage of local singers and advocating policies for the growth of the music industry.
Under Ogie, OPM’s current board of directors includes Noel Cabangon, vice president for external affairs; Gary Valenciano, vice president for internal affairs; Christian Bautista, vice president for special projects; Dingdong Avanzado, secretary; and Jose Mari Chan, treasurer; and Mitch Valdes, chairman. Former presidents Celeste Legaspi and Jim Paredes and executive director Elmar Beltran Ingles also serve as ex officio board members.
