The man & woman of FHM

MANILA, Philippines - Many men feel that a good physique is not just proof of one’s masculinity, but also a testament to the hard work that goes along with getting that body. But this month, FHM chooses the man who deals with fitness in an uncomplicated way — Derek Ramsay. He graces the cover of FHM’s annual men’s guide to style, FHM Collections.

Aside from being an actor and TV host, Derek plays professional Frisbee, which makes him more eligible for the theme of FHM Collections this year. Managing editor Allan Hernandez says, “Our main theme is about sports and the man on the cover must have both skill and style. Derek has both with his Frisbee and showbiz stature.”

Despite the theme, Derek chooses not to show off his well-sculpted abs and instead sports a more edgy look on the cover, donning a black leather jacket, white polo shirt and jeans. He reveals that he employs a rather interesting technique for his usual shirtless photo shoots. “I call my trainer and I tell him ‘Bok, kailangan nating gamitin yung muscles for the day.’ Thirty minutes straight in the gym, my body transforms and I look like a bouncer,” Derek shares.

Derek leads the pack of top athletes who also embody both skill and style. Dubbed by the magazine as the “Prime Specimen,” the list includes basketball superstars James Yap, Allan Caidic and Atoy Co; world-class bowler Paeng Nepomuceno, and the Azkals’ team captain Aly Borromeo.

On the flip cover of FHM Collections is Lovi Poe, who makes her FHM debut with a cover spread shot entirely in Thailand. This marks the magazine’s first out-of-the-country photo shoot.
