The Princess and I: Charito Solis stars in Japanese movie

Our very own Charito Solis starred in 1962 a Japanese super production titled The Princess and I, shot on location in Tokyo and Hong Kong. She is the princess who falls in love with an atomic scientist played by Kojiro Hongo.

The Princess and I is billed as ‘truly big picture — romance and intrigue… spectacle and action.’ Produced by Daiei Motion Pictures and directed by Shigeo Tanaka.

Another Japanese film Charito appeared in was Gautama Buddha, as the wife of Buddha.

In 1967, Charito won the Asian Best Actress Award for Dahil sa Isang Bulaklak. She was considered for the title role in The World of Suzie Wong, eventually played by Nancy Kwan opposite William Holden.           RKC
