Is it Rod or Rob?
MANILA, Philippines - First time I saw Rob Caudill at the airport a few days ago, I had to double look and rub my eyes. That guy really looks like Rod Stewart. Rob with spiked hair and an apple green jacket informed me he had a grueling 26-hour flight including transfers from Myrtle Beach South Carolina (Rob’s hometown) to Manila and he was happy to land on Terra Firma. It’s his first time to the Philippines and he was really excited to see the country he has heard about so much. Rob has been performing around the world including other parts of Asia as Rod Stewart for over 15 years. In fact, he recently had an extended run at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore just weeks ago.
Prior to doing the Rod Stewart tribute, Rob studied music in Memphis and did session work in the music capital of the US, Memphis, Tennessee. Rob’s first taste of fame was when he joined a band called the Breaks over two decades ago and had a major chart hit called She Wants You in the US. Rob is an excellent bass guitarist with an extensive collection of bass guitars and has done session work with rock legends like Joe Walsh of the Eagles and has jammed with a virtual “who’s who” of rock royalty like the Who, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc.
His stay in Manila was just a transit overnight stop where he picked up popular DJ/host “Long Tall Howard” to act as his liaison officer/tour manager for his performances in RW Genting Malaysia, Penang, Malaysia and Phuket, Thailand. During Rob’s brief stopover in Manila, he was invited to perform at the presentation of Miss World Philippines candidates at the Midas hotel yesterday. He serenaded the 25 finalists. What a lucky guy. Lucky, too, will be his limited guests who will watch his special dinner concert at the Midas Hotel ballroom tonight. Rod Stewart fans will be thrilled to watch Rob perform the hits Hot Legs, Tonight’s The Night, Do You Think I’m Sexy, I Don’t Wanna Talk About It, Have I Told You Lately, You’re In My Heart, Forever Young and more. A few seats are left for the dinner show. For reservations, call the Midas hotel concierge at 902-0100.
