The Ultimate Kantahan champ shows promise

MANILA, Philippines - Renz Ruther Robosa, 18, faces a bright future.

“He has a powerful voice, stage presence and mass appeal,” said movie writer Vir Mateo, citing those qualities as Renz’s winning qualities when he topped the 2010 Ultimate Kantahan singing contest on Diz Iz It, the short-lived GMA noontime show.

“Those same qualities must have impressed the judges for them to make Renz win,” added Vir.

The judges were Moy Ortiz (of The CompanY), Regine Velasquez, Jaya and Jed Madela.

Last June, Renz represented Casino Angeles City in the PAGCOR-sponsored singing contest where he finished runner-up. It didn’t stop PAGCOR from giving Renz projects. Last July 8, Renz was featured with Pooh at the Pavilion, on July 23 with Juris and Princess in Tagaytay and on July 27 also at the Pavilion with Tuesday Vargas.

Renz is the youngest child of Ruth Macaraeg, an English teacher in San Carlos, Pangasinan, and Renato Robosa, a former OFW and now a cottage-industry entrepreneur.

Renz is seen on German Moreno’s show Walang Tulugan Saturday midnights.
