Religious play opens today

MANILA, Philippines - Raymond Bagatsing and Richard Quan will lead a cast of theater actors in the musical based on the life of Mother Francisca del Espiritu Santo de Fuentes, O.P. of the Congregation of Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine of Siena.

Titled Mother Francisca de Manila, it goes onstage today at the Siena College in Quezon City and on Aug. 26 at the Siena College in Taytay in celebration of the tricentennial — or the 300th death anniversary of Mother Francisca, who is one of only two Filipinas being considered for beatification by the Vatican.

Raymond is currently part of GMA’s Time of My Life, while Richard was last seen in Imortal.  

The lead role in Mother Francisca de Manila is alternately played by Astarte Abraham and Aretha Ancao as the young Mother Francisca and Thea Perez-Prosia as the old Mother Francisca. Major sponsors of the show are PLDT-Smart and Rebisco. The musical is directed by Francis Villacorta.
