Myths retold in exhibit at Gateway Mall

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Art is the space for retelling myths and making new ones. Myth-making is every culture’s way of connecting with the natural world, with each other and with the unknown.

Myths of Our Own Making is a visual record of the individual journeys of nine artists from the UP College of Fine Arts. Ranging in age from 19 to 63, Boysie Villavicencio, Ed Arcilla, Cesar Gueta, Titat Ledesma, Cristina Escario, Chen Breva, Always Lastimosa, Jerwin Collado and Dawani de Leon present divergent viewpoints of contemporary life in the Philippines, merging a personal sense of shared history and the continuing play of its consequences in the present. With Jonathan Olazo as adviser and curator for the exhibit, they create their own myths, retelling old myths in different methods and styles  to share their stories and re-connect to nature, to society, to art and self.

The exhibition runs until Sept. 9 at the Sining Kamalig Art Gallery, located at the fourth level, Gateway Mall, Araneta Center, Cubao.
