No, there was no 'brawl'
An item came out in the Internet the other day about Aljur Abrenica allegedly “into (sic) a fight in Eastwood.” According to the item, the story was “quoted from a friend” who got it from the security guard.
Did Aljur really figure “into (sic) a brawl?”
No, he did not, according to more reliable sources.
This is what happened as related by Jojo Gabinete in his The Source column in Abante yesterday, freely translated into English, headlined Aljur, tinapik lang at ‘di inumbag ng Indian national!:
The details are incomplete and wrong in the news that Aljur Abrenica got into a fight at the Eastwood Mall Cinema last Sunday. According to Daryl Zamora, Aljur’s handler at GMA Artist Center, the actor was the victim because an Indian national, who was also going to watch a movie like Aljur, got jealous of Aljur.
Allegedly, the Indian national was with his girlfriend who kept on looking at Aljur, prompting the Indian national to stand from his seat, approach and confront Aljur.
When Aljur asked the Indian national, “What’s your problem?,” he was tapped on the shoulder by the Indian national and that’s when Aljur’s companions intervened to prevent the situation from getting worse.
When the jealous Indian national came to his senses, he asked forgiveness from Aljur. When the news broke out, many people didn’t believe it because they knew that Aljur is not the troublesome type.

Katy Perry is against ‘commercializing’ wedding
I was reading a recent issue of Vanity Fair (my favorite magazine) and two things from two different stories caught my fancy.
One, from the Katy Perry interview about her and Russell Brand’s marriage, this excerpt: “…As for trying to keep their private life private, “the press is just not your friend when it comes to a marriage,” she says. “That’s why we didn’t sell the pictures of our wedding, and we got offered millions of dollars for them, millions.” Why not take the money and give it to charity? “Well, I can always do that later for something else; maybe if I have a child… But I’ve seen too much of it with other people — it’s the wrong kind of attention. It detracts from the reason why you exist. We wanted that moment to ourselves.”
How different from local couples who can’t be above “commercializing” their weddings, often doing it by “exchange deal” and selling airing “rights” to the highest bidder. The only couple I know who didn’t resort to that easy-money game is Oyo Sotto and Kristine Hermosa who kept their wedding as private as possible.
Here’s the other item, from the interview with Charlie Sheen who has become Hollywood’s poster boy for bad behavior, excerpt:
…Sheen’s life has always been turbulent. When Charlie was 10, his father, Martin Sheen, moved his wife and four children to the Philippines set of Apocalypse Now. There, Martin, a reformed alcoholic, spectacularly fell off the wagon and slipped into near madness, suffering a heart attack that was recorded on-camera. Off-camera, he warred with his family, especially the eldest of his three sons, Emilio Estevez, who called his father a liar, angry at him for not taking the family home earlier…
No comment.
Ligo Na U release moved to Sept. 7
The showing of Ligo Na U, Lapit Na Me, the indie acquired and to be released by Regal Films, has been moved from Aug. 17 to Sept. 7 due to, according to its producer Noel Ferrer, “a very encouraging MTRCB R-13 rating, approved without cuts and to give more time for the promotion as it will enjoy wider release (including SM theaters) nationwide, and also Mother Lily would rather let the ghost month pass.”
Noel added that before the release of Ligo Na U in the commercial circuit, its actor, Edgar Allan Guzman (who won Best Actor for it in the recent Cinemalaya Indie Filmfest) and ABS-CBN Primetime Princess Kim Chiu star in a very special episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya tonight, directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina who’s making an MMK comeback after six years.
