Movies that get us groovin'

MANILA, Philippines - What will an inspiring story, great music and excellent dancers make up on the big screen? It’s got to be an amazing movie that will get your feet grooving to the beat. You get to enjoy a movie and it inspires you to dance as well — what a way to be entertained! So get those legs ready to be in motion as you watch the following movies.

Step Up. Two people living in different worlds are brought together by chance. Together they will make their way to the dance floor to reach their ultimate dreams. Somehow it reminds everyone not to be afraid and just take a step up towards their goals in life.  

Save the Last Dance. After her first failed audition and her mother’s death, Sara gives up on her dream of becoming a dancer. Starting her life anew in a new neighborhood, she meets new friends who encourage her to go on reaching for her dream. Will this second chance be a success for Sara? 

Dirty Dancing. Baby Houseman, together with her family, spends their summer vacation in an upscale resort. Baby meets Johnny, a dance instructor who will soon teach her a lot of things about life, love and a dance that she has never danced before.  

Billy Elliot. The movie is about an 11-year-old boy who dreams of becoming a professional ballet dancer. However, just like anybody who is reaching for his dream, Billy faces challenges along the way. Will he pursue to reach his dream or will he just do what’s expected of him?

Saturday Night Fever. Tony Manero has a way of escaping life’s problems — he dances the night away. He is the king of the dance floor at a discotheque on weekends. However, people can never run away from their problems so Tony needs to face it sooner or later.

Chicago. Roxie and Velma are both performers who are charged of murder. They try to use their charms to get away from the crimes they did. They also try to out do each other in the entertainment world. Who’s the best? Make way for the battle of the entertainers.

Flash Dance. It is about reaching for one’s dream. Alex, the lead character, and her friends, have their own goals. For Alex, she wants to become a professional ballet dancer; but just like any dreams, one should work hard for it. With all the challenges, will Alex still pursue her dream?  

Footloose. Ren and his mother are from the city; they move in to a small conservative town that bans rock music and dancing. Believing that this is not right, Ren tries every way to convince the city council to permit what they had forbid. Will the town ever enjoy dancing and listening to rock music?

Shall We Dance?. A bored, married lawyer tries to spice up his life by joining a dance class that would later change his outlook in life and influence the people around him. Learning how to dance may not be easy, but it sure is a great way to bring color to a dull life.  

Black Swan. Two talented ballet dancers vie for the lead character role in Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake. As they compete, one of them would realize that there’s a dark side coming out of her. Will the competition be fair?
