- Paolo Romero -

MANILA, Philippines - Journalists covering the House of Representatives have organized On the Beat, a fund-raising dance and musical concert for a cancer-stricken colleague on Aug. 10 with two top bands and a group of lawmakers as performers.

The fund-raising concert, to be held at the Celebrity Plaza in Quezon City, is for the benefit of newspaperman Raul Beltran, who is now battling cancer.

Lousy Boys, a band composed of lawmakers and other young leaders, will guest in the concert. Also gracing the occasion are Reps. Manny Pacquiao, Lucy Torres-Gomez and Lani Mercado-Revilla.

Topbilled by The Bloomfields and Gabby Claudio’s  electrifying The Double Vision, On the Beat promises to be a night of dance and live musical entertainment for Senate and House members and other guests who are sharing for the medical expenses of Beltran.

Lousy Boys is comprised of young leaders who hit it off with common political ideals and musical talents. The group is composed of Reps. Bem Noel, Juan Edgardo “Sonny”Angara and Justin Chipeco, together with former Representatives Gilbert Remulla, Mujiv Hataman and Joel Villanueva, now director general of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.

The Bloomfields composed of Rocky Collado, Lakan Hila, Louie Poco and Dino Pascual has amazed the entertainment circuit playing good old ‘60s music.

Aside from corporate and media concert performances, The Bloomfields performs Thursdays at The Establishment in the Fort, Taguig City.

Gabby Claudio, former presidential political adviser, heads the now in-demand The Double Vision (DVB).  Since it started going professional, the group has dazzled young and elder audiences with their musical versatility and energetic stage presence. It was formed in 2007 by Claudio and his twin brother Dr. Rafael Claudio.

Now minus Rafael, who is full-time chair of the Orthopedics Department of Medical City, DVB plays regularly at Chef and Brewer Bar-Restaurant in Ortigas, regaling audiences with a superb variety of listening and dance music from the ’70s to the ’90s.

Besides Gabby, who plays bass guitar and acts as band manager, the members of the band are Abet Alfonso on keyboards; Boy Collado on drums; Monet Villarin on rhythm guitar and percussions; Mike Gural on lead guitar; and Milan Lazaro, lead female vocalist.
