More than just another looker

Manila, Philippines - Alden Richards of GMA Artist Center has proven he’s more than just another good-looking face by winning Yahoo Philippines’ survey for local showbiz’s Best Male Newcomer.

The 18-year-old tween star, won the coveted award at a well-attended awards night last June 21 at Resorts World Manila. He triumphed after being declared “the most searched celebrity” among those in the newcomers’ category.

“Very fulfilling po ang pakiramdam winning the Yahoo award. With it mas motivated pa po ako to do better sa work ko,” he said.

Alden will appear in a Tween Hearts movie version directed by Marc Reyes. In the film, he’s Christian, an all-around good boy, basketball team captain and campus heartthrob who protects other students from bullies.

The big screen take on Tween Hearts features Alden’s tandem with onscreen partner Louise de los Reyes. According to Alden, he and Louise will have a lot happier ending in their movie than what happened in the TV series Alakdana.

Asked about his feeling for the tremendous support given him by GMAAC and his mother network, Alden said, “Ang sarap po ng pakiramdam na pinagkakatiwalaan ka at binibigay sa’yo ang mga projects that are best for you. I really appreciate their support and I’m so satisfied by how my career is being managed.”

Alden is also set to play a psychotic young man in a Yam Laranas-directed horror film to be starred by Rhian Ramos and Marvin Agustin. The part, which he describes as “someone harmless on the outside, but dangerous on the inside,” is his dream role.

He said of his movie projects, “Nakakakilabot na dati I’m just like any other boy watching movies and now I’m seeing myself on one. Hindi pa rin po ako makapaniwala.”
