Piolo, Jennylyn top OMG! Awards

MANILA, Philippines - Yahoo! rolled out the purple carpet to launch its first-ever OMG! Awards at Republiq, Resorts World last June 21. The Yahoo! OMG! Awards recognized the most-searched celebrities on its newest and leading entertainment property in the Philippines, Yahoo! OMG.

Hosted by JM Rodriguez and Andi Manzano, the Yahoo! OMG! Awards featured performances by Somedaydream, Johnhoy Danao and Up Dharma Down. A purple fashion show featuring works by designers Joey Samson, Jun Escario and Kate Torralba amped the style factor to the event while “Cosplay Queen” Alodia Gosiengfiao live-blogged the event while Joey Alarilla, Yahoo! head of Social Content Strategy for Southeast Asia live-tweeted for Filipino entertainment lovers all over the globe.

“OMG! Awards is a direct response to the increasing popularity of Yahoo!’s entertainment site which was launched in March this year and has quickly grown to become the No. 1 property in the Philippines. The site Funniest Comedian Vice Ganda and Funniest Comedienne Eugene Domingo http://ph.omg.yahoo.com/ consists of the latest news on the local and global entertainment scene, and receives 682,000 unique visitors per month,” said Erwin Lemuel Oliva, country editor (Philippines).

The highlight of the evening was the presence of the biggest and brightest stars in the entertainment industry who graced the event like Piolo Pascual, Vice Ganda, Eugene Domingo, Sam Pinto, Kathryn Bernardo and Louise delos Reyes all nominees and winners from various categories.

“In determining the winners in each category, our editors ran a thorough trend analysis by assessing the percentage increase in the online searches to identify the most-searched Filipino celebrities. From the short-list, readers were asked to vote for their favorite,” explained Oliva.

Taking home the biggest awards that evening were television host and government official Shalani Soledad who took home the OMG! Celeb of the Year by being the most searched celebrity in Yahoo! and the country’s bet to Miss Universe 2011 Shamcey Supsup who topped the rest to win this year’s OMG! Major Impact Award as the most searched non-showbiz celebrity. Below is the list of winners:
