Kapuso stars banner Tacloban's Sangyaw Festival

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - GMA Network brings to the people of Tacloban some of its most sought-after stars to add flavor to the city’s celebration of the Sangyaw Festival this week.

Party Pilipinas’ Jolina Magdangal is set to join the fun in the “Balik-Tacloban” (Balikbayans Night) later today at 6 p.m. in the Balyuan Convention Center.

On Wednesday, June 29, the cast of the primetime action-adventure series Captain Barbell — led by lead star Richard Gutierrez, together with co-stars Michelle Madrigal, TJ Trinidad, Ervic Vijandre and Jillian Ward — will headline the Kapuso Sangyaw Float Parade starting 1 p.m. This will be followed by the Kapuso Mall Show at Robinsons Place Tacloban at 8 p.m. They will be joined by Party Pilipinas’ Ogie Alcasid and Kyla.

“For the first time, GMA Network is participating in Tacloban City’s Sangyaw Festival as part of our commitment to bring superior entertainment and quality programs to our Kapusong Taclobanon in Leyte,” says Oliver Amoroso, AVP for marketing and sales, GMA Regional TV.

The Sangyaw Festival, which means “to herald news” in Waray language, is celebrated in commemoration of the people’s tribute to their self-identity. Typically, this event showcases parades, street dances, and other kinds of performances since its revival in 2008 by the city government of Tacloban.

The Kapuso Sangyaw TV Special will be aired on July 24 at 8:30 a.m. through GMA Network’s regional stations. The TV special will also feature Tacloban City’s local delicacies and tourist destinations, among others.
