Winchester brothers reunite in Supernatural 6

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The thrilling and terrifying journey of the Winchester Brothers, Sam and Dean (portrayed by Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, respectively) continues with the sixth season of

Supernatural

airing on AXN Beyond from weeknights

at 9:50.

From seasons one to five, Sam and Dean spent their lives on the road, battling every kind of supernatural threat. After dozens of bloody adventures, they finally closed in on their dark destiny — Sam and Dean learned they were to be important and prophesied participants in the Apocalypse. With the help of father-figure Bobby (Jim Beaver) and fallen angel Castiel (Misha Collins), the brothers managed to avert the End and defeat Destiny itself, but at a cost — Sam was imprisoned in Hell while Dean tried to settle down in a normal life.

Season 6 reunites the brothers to fight the growing wave of paranormal evil with shape-shifters, vampires, werewolves, “Djinn” and more. Supernatural continues to reinvent itself with a fresh story arc, as envisioned by creator Eric Kripke (Boogeyman). There are even more things to look forward to in the latest season as attested by the lead actors of the show in the interview below:

What can you tell us about Dean’s state of mind this season?

Jensen: “Well, from what I know so far, it’s reluctance. There’s definitely an inner battle between wanting to stay out of the game and wanting to live a life, wanting to be there for this woman and child that he has now become a family to, but there’s also that undeniable urge of being a hunter — it’s in his blood, it’s what he does, it’s what he has known. So there’s that battle of wanting to protect his family and keep them as far away from it (supernaturals) as possible but in doing that, he’s getting deeper and deeper back into it. It’s that inner struggle.”

What monsters are we going to see?

Jensen: “We’re getting back to some of the old ones. I know we’ve got a Djinn, which was in the episode What Is And What Should Never Be at the end of season two — (Eric) Kripke actually directed that one — so we have a revisit from those characters. Since the end of season five, the world of the evil, the monsters and the demons has had a bit of an upturn. There are monsters turning up in areas that we shouldn’t be fighting them in, and they’re acting out of character, like vampires that are walking around in the day, everything’s turned upside down. So for the first few episodes it’s a lot of trying to make sense of what is going on.”

Okay, what’s your favorite and least favorite thing about Sam?

Jensen: “My least favorite is how tall he is. My favorite thing? I like the balance of the two characters, just as far as them playing off each other. People can say it’s chemistry or whatever as actors, but I really think it is the characters that are such a good blend, because Dean’s the gruff, tough guy who is also smart and stuff, whereas Sam is more the straight and narrow, with his head in the game. So I think that balance is what makes it work.”

What is Sam like in this latest season of Supernatural?

Jared: “Sam is in a very messed up place, of all the messed up places that Sam has been, this takes the cake. People always ask me how I want the show to end, and I say, ‘I think it would be fun for Sam or Dean to die,’ but then I’m like, ‘Wait, Sam (has) died. Dean (has) died. We’ve both died.’ So I don’t know if there’s anything that can take us down. But I think spending some time in the hole with Lucifer, Sam is pretty messed up.”

So, are you good Sam or bad Sam?

Jared: “If I was to make a choice, I would say that to the audience, I’m bad Sam. But I think to Sam, he’s good Sam. Not the way it was with the demon blood, where it was obvious, but season six Sam is like the season one Dean, who is ‘shoot first, ask questions later.’”
