Juris, Jovit big winners in 101.9 OPM Awards

MANILA, Philippines - Jovit Baldivino and Juris Fernandez were the big winners of the second Tambayan 101.9 OPM Awards 2011 held last May 28 at the SM City North Edsa SkyDome.

Different personalities in the music industry gathered in the event to give recognition to artists who support and push Original Pilipino Music (OPM) in the country.

Jovit bagged two awards namely the Best New Artist and the Best Male Artist, while Juris took home the Best Female Artist award. Her hit Di Lang Ikaw won Song of the Year.

The band Six Part Invention made a mark in the industry as it won the Band of the Year award, while the comeback efforts of Siakol paid off as it won the Album of the Year award.

Meanwhile, Charice received the Tambayani Award that was first given to the late master rapper Francis Magallona. The award is being given to an artist who has great contributions to the Filipino music industry.

Wow Magic Sing’s jingle sang by Charice also won in the Kantamersyal category.

Performances also pumped up the crowd in the jampacked SM SkyDome. Girls went wild and cheered when Jericho Rosales and Christian Bautista rendered song numbers. Jericho got the Best Live Performance award while Christian won the Best OPM Revival award for his hit single Beautiful Girl.

Other performers were Six Part Invention, Siakol, Itchyworms, Faith Cuneta, Maldita, Frio, Nei Dimaculangan, OJ Mariano, Liezel Garcia, Gloc 9, Mark Allain, Star Power 4 Akiko Solon, Monica Sacay, K-La Rivera, Krissel Valdes, and Angeline Quinto.
