Something's cookin' between Karylle & Christian
Manila, Philippines - During the run of Stages’ West Side Story years ago, audiences noted how the team-up of Christian Bautista and Karylle was a match made in heaven. Their seemingly convincing portrayal of the lovescorned Tony and Maria made fans swoon and hoped that they become the next romantic item in showbizlandia.
Sightings of the two in various events and places were abundant that people started speculating that they were indeed playing beautiful music together. The two even had a string of successful shows in the US billed Love At Last.
Karylle then went on to star in a string of TV series while Christian busied himself with his international career. Then, the news about the “couple” stopped, and suddenly, they were already being linked to other people.
This month, Christian and Karylle’s paths will cross again as they star in the first Pan-Asian musical series The Kitchen Musical, where the two will shoot for four months alongside some of the most talented international stars.
Karylle plays Chef Madeline, daughter of the restaurant owner struggling to have her own voice heard in the kitchen, while Christian plays her bestfriend-cum-rival Daniel, who is secretly attracted to her.
“I am very honored to be the lead actress of The Kitchen Musical, a unique show that brings together some of my first loves — drama, music, dance and food,” says Karylle. “It will be a great opportunity to shine not just at home, but also on the Asian stage. I look forward to taking on my role, doing well and winning fans from across the region.”
Christian, on the other hand, admits that The Kitchen Musical excites him personally and professionally. He says, “I know it is going to get busy but I am relishing the challenges that lie ahead.”
Karylle and Christian will be joined by fellow Filipinos Thou Reyes, Art Acuna and Ikey Canoy with Broadway star Stephen Hughes of Broadway Dreams.
The first month will have the actors in boot camp to learn everything about the kitchen, to prepare them for the almost three months daily taping.
The said musical series will be aired over 17 countries over AXN, while ABS-CBN will make a special on the show and Studio 23 will air the series starting October.
Asked about the secret behind their successful international career bids during the presscon for The Kitchen Musical, Christian replied, “Commitment to the craft, established relationship with people in the media and have a manager like Carlo Orosa.”
Carlo is the head of Stages Talent Management Group, which manages the careers of Christian and Karylle.
Before leaving, Karylle has finished waxing her album Roadtrip, where the hit dance tune OMG is included, while Christian is releasing his first international movie A Special Symphony in August.
“We will miss everyone here at home, but we know that our participation in the project will further highlight how good Filipinos are in this field,” concludes Karylle. “We will all see you in four months.”
