MANILA, Philippines - After directing a music video featuring two of GMA 7’s top draws, Bianca King (photo) is poised to “propel forward” the career of a promising Filipino act through a debut show featuring the surprise radio hit Hey Daydreamer. Bianca once again called the shots.
After her work with Hale’s Bahay Kubo starring Angel Locsin (which won Best Video in USTv Awards) and the shoot that put together Frencheska Farr and Richard Gutierrez, Bianca pulled off another big trick with her latest take featuring electropop talent Somedaydream. Make no mistake, what sounds to be a band is a solo artist touted by music critics as the “future of OPM.”
“It’s set in a wholesome house party and has a kilig narrative between a fan and the pop star,” shared Bianca when asked for the video’s mood. “In the story, she reveals Somedaydream’s true identity — that of a young Filipino musician who everyone’s surprised about since people who have heard Hey Daydreamer think that it is by a foreign band.”
According to Bianca, the song’s electronic beats remind her of the ’90s when she was still a pre-teen so she incorporated elements paying homage to rollerblades, glowsticks, family computer, plastic balloon, among others. She sees Somedaydream (an indie artist off the Mecca Music label established by Champ Lui-Pio) as an admirable talent, being a composer and instrumentalist with boyish, mass appeal that is the catch of any director doing mainstream video.
The main actress is Jasmine Curtis-Smith, while Rhian Ramos worked as stylist. It was revealed that the latter had been toiling on the idea of doing such, especially that she has an eye for designing and sketching. During the shoot, Rhian was seen working doubly hard in styling around 20 extras.
With colorful lighting and set design, the tone fits well with Somedaydream’s electronic pop collage. “I’m using my experience as an actress and skills from school to help other artists flourish. Conceptualizing is never a challenge as I get possessed when I have a good idea for a storyboard. If I don’t get possessed by an idea, then I don’t do it at all,” Bianca said.
A busy actress known for playing Aviona on Mulawin, Bianca plays Lary on Captain Barbell. That Lary, a lieutenant who trains super humans, is girl empowerment and is reflective of how she gets to excel in various forms of artistic mediums.
She also plans to work on a Cinemalaya material which she can produce and act in. Everything she does is worth a precious gift for her.
She related, “Producing Hey Daydreamer is an accomplishment in itself because we had no money to produce it and had to rely on favors and our savings to come up with it.”
