Watchpad recently introduced the Awesome Hunt as its way of announcing the 200,000 additional DSL lines it has installed in several provinces nationwide. Eight teams comprised of celebrities and bloggers were deployed to the different locations last April 7 and were given a set of instructions involving local hidden gems; a historical landmark, a barangay hall, a restaurant and a novelty shop. As each task was accomplished, the teams were required to upload their progress in the form of a travel blog on the Awesome Hunt site. The teams around the metropolis and nearby provinces then had to check in at nearby Cebu Pacific ticketing offices.
The blogs were still open for voting until April 24. The result was decided on by online votes of the public, and by an esteemed panel of judges including Department of Tourism Secretary Alberto Lim, Mega Magazine editor-in-chief Sari Yap, Modern Epicurean chef Stephanie Zubiri, Our Awesome Planet’s Anton Diaz and Circuit editor-in-chief JR Isaac.
At stake is P50,000 cash, a one-year free subscription to PLDT Plan 990, a Sony VAIO laptop, a Sony Cybershot digital camera, a trip to Dakak courtesy of Cebu Pacific and a pizza party care of Yellow Cab Pizza Co. All prizes will go to each member of the team that wins the hunt — and one lucky person who votes for them.
The participating teams were Marco Alcaraz and Bela Padilla for Butuan; MYX VJ Ton Vergel de Dios and Ryza Cenon, Dumaguete; blogger Jayvee Fernandez and Luis Alandy, Las Piñas; Dolly Anne Carvajal and son IC Mendoza, Laguna; blogger and Manila Tour guide Carlos Celdran and China Cojuangco, Quezon City; Steven Silva and Daiana Menezes, Marikina; DJ Mojo Jojo and Jane Chua, Rizal; and Mark Herras and car drifter Alex Perez, Cavite.
