Will her luck hold?
MANILA, Philippines - Zsa Zsa Padilla bagged the Best Supporting Actress award in Entertainment Press Society, Inc.’s recently-concluded Eighth Golden Screen Awards for her unforgettable and powerful performance in Joel Lamanagan’s Sigwa.
In Sigwa, Zsa Zsa plays Cita, a political activist during the turbulent First Quarter Storm of the ’70s who eventually became an NPA leader who continued to fight for the cause she believed in. An almost unrecognizable, deglamorized Zsa Zsa emerged on the silver screen, a persona totally different from her fabulous, goddess-like image as the country’s Divine Diva. “It was my first time to do an indie film. How could I say no to my good friend Joel Lamangan? It was truly an unforgettable experience. The character I portrayed in the movie taught me how passionate political activists can be for the cause they are fighting for,” says Zsa Zsa.
It should be noted that this is Zsa Zsa’s first acting award since she won five Best Actress awards in 2006 for her hilarious performance in the fourth installation of Regal Films’ successful Mano Po franchise, Ako Legal Wife.
The Golden Screen Awards also honored Dolphy with a special award for his contribution in comedy. “I am so proud of Dolphy and at the same time we are humbled by the recognition given to him. Dolphy is very happy with the award and there are so many exciting projects line-up for him. Show business has been so kind to us and we will continue to work harder in giving quality performances not only in film and on TV but in the live concert stage as well.”
Urian recently announced its line-up of nominees and Zsa Zsa is one of the strong contenders for Best Supporting Actress. “I’m really happy about the nomination but I’m not expecting anything. The fact that I am nominated is a great honor in itself. However, I stand by the producers of Sigwa and my co-actors, in their wish for the film to be shown in mainstream movie theaters because it really has strong and important message that can affect positive change in the minds of moviegoers.”
In the meantime, Zsa Zsa gears up for another show-stopping back-to-back concert with OPM Icon Basil Valdez tomorrow, April 26. They are the featured artists in Resorts World Manila’s Concert Series at the Newport Performing Arts Theater. With musical direction by Homer Flores and stage direction by Roxanne Lapus, fans and music aficionados can look forward to an unforgettable evening of beautiful music as Basil and Zsa Zsa dish out their original hit songs culled from their individual catalogues of multi-platinum albums. Zsa Zsa will perform her biggest hits such as Hiram, Kahit Na, Ikaw Lamang and Mambobola, among many others, plus there are other great surprises in store for the audiences.
“It’s great to work with Basil after so many years! He is such a dear friend and we share the same intense love and passion for music so this show will truly be a blast!”
