Nokia Shorts 2011 tilt

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Nokia gives budding filmmakers a chance for their masterpieces to go international as it launches Nokia Shorts 2011 searching for the world’s best short films in partnership with online video sharing site Vimeo.

The international short film competition invites aspiring filmmakers to shoot their short films using the Nokia N8 smartphone for a chance to win $10,000. The winning short film also gets a special screening at the prestigious Edinburgh International Film Festival.

To join, aspiring directors just have to visit www.vimeo.com/nokia to pitch their idea for a short film on a subject of their choice. Under a rigorous selection process by a panel of judges, eight of the best submissions will be short listed for the grand finals and their creators will be awarded a production budget of $5,000 and two Nokia N8 smartphones to make their film. The winning film will be chosen by the panel of judges and will be screened at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in June.

This is an incredible opportunity for Filipino directors to be part of the mobile movie-making revolution with the Nokia N8. Dubbed the world’s best entertainment mobile phone, the Nokia N8 brings HD-quality video recording and film editing software allowing amateur filmmakers to produce professional-quality films straight from the palm of their hands.

With a microphone on both the front and the back of the handset for a greater sense of the original ambient environment and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound, the Nokia N8 is the ideal smartphone for directors in the making.
