Summer workshops at Spotlight Centre

MANILA, Philippines –  Spotlight Artists Centre supervised by Robert Seña and Isay Alvarez announces its summer workshops. The series kicks off with musical theatre workshops from April 14 to May 23 at 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (seven to 12 years old) and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. (13 and up).

Robert and Isay are happy about how today’s kids are interested to sing and dance.

“We have to admit that YouTube, Facebook, Twitter are pervasive and influential among kids,” Robert shares. “The good thing about these new trends is that they inspire and empower kids to discover and harness their talents — and we have a lot of that.”

For starters, Kathryn Bernardo of Mara Clara is a Spotlight graduate. Another is Mayumi Morales, who represented the country last year at the World Championships of Performing Arts. The 10-year-old Warren Saga and 12-year-old Mica Torre are among the promising upstarts. The two have been tapped to star in the Singapore run of The Lion King (The Musical) this year. They play young Simba and young Nala, respectively.

The school also offers Spotlight Kids workshop, a program that focuses on creative play through music and dance designed for toddlers to preschoolers. The 12-session course starts from April 13 to May 25, 10 a.m. to 12 noon.

There are also individual and group classes for voice, guitar, piano and drums, ranging from 12 to 15 sessions.

Aspiring lounge singers can also learn to croon, belt and adapt to various musical styles through the Lounge Singing workshop from April 16 to July 23 (every Saturday at 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.). By interacting with a live three-piece band, enrollees develop stage dynamics, audience rapport and build a comprehensive repertoire for lounge, bar or wedding gigs.

Spotlight Artists Centre is located at 122 Doña Consolacion Bldg., Jupiter St., Bel-Air Village, Makati City. For details, call 899-8089 or visit 222.spotlightartistscentre.com.
