First, the bad news: Sen. Bong Revilla and Cavite Rep. Lani Mercado’s much-publicized silver (25th) wedding renewal of vows set for May 10 in California has been cancelled. The ceremony was supposed to be held at the Church of the Recessional in Glendale Forest Lawn where Michael Jackson is buried.
“Everything was set,” Lani told Funfare Update. “In fact, we have already reserved the place.”
The couple’s silver wedding anniversary is actually on May 28 yet but they advanced the date to suit the schedules of their ninongs and ninangs (same set as on their first wedding which was non-sectarian) most of whom are going to watch the bout between Manny Pacquiao and Shane Mosley at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 7.
“However,” said Lani, “due to recent developments, we have to cancel the wedding in the US. The Senate session opens on May 9 and Bong cannot be absent.”
Yes, duty before pleasure.
Now, the good news: The couple will still renew their vows at an equally memorable ceremony here, although Lani said that she’s not yet at liberty to reveal where and when it will be. For sure, their six children (plus upcoming actor Luigi Revilla, Bong’s publicly recognized love son) and two grandchildren will be included in the entourage.
Bong and Lani were married twice, first on May 28, 1986 in California, which they officially celebrate, and then on March 25, 1998, at a church wedding in Cavite.
Asked if they’re having a “silver” honeymoon, Lani was non-committal.
“Why not?” she said. “It’s more exciting the second time around, di ba?”

• Spotted at the airport yesterday were sweethearts John Lloyd Cruz and Shaina Magdayao. They were bound for Bangkok. For work or for, well, you know what? Enjoy the temples and Patpong, JLC and Shaina! Just be careful with the elephants, in case you’re planning to ride them.
•Again, I’m printing this interesting item: This year, we’re going to experience four unusual dates: 1/1/11, 1/11/11, 11/1/11 and 11/11/11.Try this: Take the last two digits of the year in which you were born and add the age you will be this year and you get 111. It works for everyone.
