John Lloyd on his leading ladies

DIRECT LINE - Boy Abunda -

As an actor, John Lloyd Cruz is one of the most coveted leading men. But what can he say about his leading ladies and their forthcoming projects?

Bea Alonzo: Sometimes when I’m on the set and I come across a scene that I have to do, I think of her.

Sarah Geronimo: What I know of is that we will have a follow-up movie. I don’t know when it will be.

Toni Gonzaga: It’s on the scripting stage, but I don’t know yet when the shoot will be set.

Angel Locsin: I do respect her privacy and her personal affairs.

Anne Curtis: I hope we get a chance to work together.

Shaina Magdayao: We are happy. Those who express concern for us should not worry.

No romance between James and Isabel

James Yap is rumored to be back in the dating game after his separation from Kris Aquino. But the duo has remained good friends. In fact, they consult each other on their comings and goings. Last Valentine’s Day, Kris and James exchanged gifts. Lately, James consulted Kris on a condominium he plans to purchase. They also know the real score when it comes to their love life. Kris at the moment is not dating. James, on the other hand, is reportedly wooing Isabel Oli. They were, some showbiz reports say, seen together in a mall. Isabel admits they saw each other at a mall but in the company of friends. “We didn’t go on a date. We just bumped into each other at the mall,” said Isabel.

Isabel is a Cebuana and so is James that is why they seem to connect to each other. During James’ birthday last month, Isabel was one of his guests. She did not send him a gift. “Her presence is enough on my birthday. There’s no need for a gift,” says James.

As of the moment, James says he is not dating. Isabel is just a friend. “I do not deny that Isabel is my friend but we are not dating. Everybody knows that I am single, so it’s an issue whoever is seen with me.”

Lorna, Amy together in soap

Lorna Tolentino and Amy Austria have been friends for almost three decades. And yes, they are always there for each other. Lorna was a shoulder to lean on when Jay Ilagan, Amy’s then live-in boyfriend died in a freak motorcycle accident. Amy stayed by Lorna’s side when the latter’s husband Rudy Fernandez died. Lorna and Amy are part of a group called The Legends. When Rudy died, Lorna made her own TV comeback via Dahil May Isang Ikaw. Today, she is cast in the new teleserye, Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin. Amy has been in a semi-retirement mode, playing housewife for the past four years until Lorna convinced her to try TV acting again. Her last teleserye was Walang Kapalit topbilled by Piolo Pascual and Claudine Barretto.

But why did she stop? “I just want to rest. I said one year only. But I enjoyed, until it became two years… three years, then it’s been four years that I haven’t done any acting. I thought about making a comeback. I was just a plain housewife then.

Thus, when Lorna called her if she wanted to play her half sister, Amy readily said yes. And together, they make a formidable cast in the new series with Lorna playing Alondra del Tierro, a rich and ambitious businesswoman, and Amy as Rosa, a teacher-turned-rebel. Others in the teleserye are John Estrada, Tonton Gutierrez, Maja Salvador, Andi Eigenmann and Coco Martin. “We’re so happy on the set. It’s as if we’re just playing,” Amy said.

Gerald is happily single

He might not be in love, but Gerald Anderson is ready to fall in love. The 22-year-old actor who celebrated his birthday recently, said, he is taking his time before falling in love again. “I will wait for the right time. Pag nandiyan na siya.”

Could he be referring to his new leading lady in Catch Me If You Can, Sarah Geronimo? “Close friend” is how Gerald calls Sarah. But would that close friendship lead to something beautiful a year or two from now? “I hope our friendship will go on and on because we became close in the movie. Her family — Mommy Divine and Daddy Delfin have become close. I hope the friendship will last.”

Gerald Anderson admits Kim Chiu was his first love. He also said that at 22 he still has to experience so many things in life. “I want to experience so many things. I want to travel. I want more projects to inspire a lot of people. Andami ko pang gustong gawin.” Asked at what age he would marry, Gerald said, “30 or 32 years old.”

Catch Me If You Can showing on March 23 in theaters nationwide, was a “kilig experience” for Gerald. The movie is a co-production between Viva and Star Cinema.
