MANILA, Philippines - After a brief hiatus of nine months, Carla Guevara-Laforteza is back on stage, first in Rent and now in Breakups and Breakdowns.
The two musical plays showcased Carla’s acting prowess as she tackled the difficult task of portraying two challenging roles in two different musical plays at the same time during their overlapping runs for three weeks.
Carla has garnered rave reviews for her portrayal as the larger-than-life bi-sexual performing artist Maureen Johnson in Rent ever since its premiere run in February 2010 for which she was dubbed the Idina Menzel of the Philippines.
As the character Maureen, Carla showed the very wacky and daring side of her. She breathed life into her character with such passion and craziness partnered with the pop/rock kick-ass vocals that was required.
In Breakups and Breakdowns, Carla’s different side is shown as she portrays the role of the conservative, level-headed and intellectual Nina.
She breezes through her songs with so much emotion and pitch-perfect crystal clear voice.
Catch Carla in Upstart Productions’ Breakups and Breakdowns (an original musical play by her good friend and fellow theater veteran Joel Trinidad with music by Rony Fortich) Fridays and Saturdays till March 12 at Teatrino in Promenade, Greenhills.
