Donaire-Montiel bout on TFC pay-per-view

MANILA, Philippines - As Nonito Donaire works to grab the title away from World Bantamweight Champion Fernando Montiel in Las Vegas today, Filipinos from around the world witness to the making of another boxing hero.

The highly-anticipated Donaire-Montiel world title fight is the latest chapter in the ongoing Philippines-Mexico battle for boxing supremacy that global Filipinos dare not miss. Pinoy boxing fans have been preparing to see the breathtaking event live from the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino by signing up to The Filipino Channel (TFC)’s pay-per-view service.

The TFC broadcast will start at 5:15 a.m. Saudi Time, 3:15 a.m. Milan Time, 2:15 a.m. London Time and 1:15 p.m. Sydney Time tomorrow, Feb. 20.

Donaire is a native of General Santos City where the phenomenal eight-division titlist and Rep. Manny Pacquiao lives. Donaire, however, now resides in the Bay Area of San Leandro, California. He carries on his belt 25 wins and only one loss, with 17 of those wins declared as knockouts. His nine-year winning streak includes an IBF/IBO flyweight title from his knockout victory over Vic Darchinyan and a fourth-round defeat of former WBA bantamweight champion Wladimir Sidorenko.

Montiel, on the other hand, has a record of 43-2-2 with 33 KOs. He is from Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico and only the fourth Mexican fighter to win world titles in three different weight divisions, joining the ranks of Julio Cesar Chavez, Erik Morales and Marco Antonio Barrera. Undefeated since 2006, eight of Montiel’s last 10 victories have been by stoppage.

According to ABS-CBN Global COO Raffy Lopez, “We believe that our countrymen, wherever they are in the world, are just so eager to give their all-out support to Donaire and Feb. 19 (Pacific Time), we will once again create an incredible and contagiously festive atmosphere that’s very similar to the Pacquiao fights. In more ways than one, our collective efforts to pray and cheer for Congressman Pacquiao before have helped him earn the title of Pound-for-Pound Best Boxer in the World. By also offering Donaire’s upcoming match on TFC’s pay-per-view service, we remain committed to giving our Filipino audiences all over the world the opportunity to create another boxing phenomenon.”
