MANILA, Philippines - The SM Center-Las Piñas will be the venue of the 19th annual garden show and exhibit of the Las Piñas Garden Club on Feb. 18 to 27.
The 10-day annual exhibit will center on the theme, Pagmamahalan sa Halamanan, featuring romantic gardens.
According to club president Ching San Pedro, the event will showcase a spectacular exhibit of various garden settings and floral arrangements designed and prepared by the club members.
Las Piñas City Mayor Vergel “Nene” Aguilar and Rep. Mark Villar, who are among the major supporters of the garden show, will also lead the list of prominent personalities who will set up booths to display their exhibits.
Among the highlights of the event are a competition involving assorted plant species, and a commercial section that will offer for sale ornamental plants, fruits and forest trees, plant fertilizer and other garden supplies.
Daily free lectures on various topics on plants and gardening shall be conducted by authorities and experts.
The panel of invited speakers and their subjects include Anton Claro (orchids and ornamental growing), Egay Littaua (flower arrangements demo), Johnny dela Cruz (dish garden demo), Josey Diesta (container garden), Almabelle Durado and Edward Macatula (pesticide for care of plant); Dr. Dackie Fernandez (cooking with herbs), Letty Alonzo (tips for the elderly) and Dr. Bonifacio Dazo (developing a healthy lifestyle).
Spearheading preparations for the event are the various working committees led by club president Ching San Pedro and composed of Thelma Tegelan, Egay Littaua, Adel Bayot, Francis Saludo, Zeny Dumlao, Josey Diesta, Ida Bernardo, Chel Antonino, Ester Salibay, Arlene Resari, Carmen Manarang, Virgie Luarca, Gli Magayanes, Leni Nobleza and Cora Salvador.
