Sweetest lines for Valentine's

Joy Jonette Chuyaco - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The sight of Cupid posters, heart-shaped objects, a picture of a boy and a girl or two swans kissing are just some of the indications that the love month has arrived again. It is the time when people express their love strongly. One of the ways people show their love is by saying how they feel. More often than not, many people use lines from romantic movies to capture the hearts of their prospects — thanks to the writers! So on Feb. 14, Valentine’s Day, be sure to be equipped with the right words. So in addition to the classic romantic lines, here are 14 more lines that will melt hearts as well:

“It seems right now that all I’ve ever done in my life is making my way here to you” — from Bridges of Madison County. Robert (Clint Eastwood) surely knew what to say at the right time and at the right place. No wonder Francesca (Meryl Streep) was head over heels with him. Try to use this line. You’ll surely get a positive reaction — maybe a kiss.

“The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return” — from Moulin Rouge. Actually, the movie has lots of nice quotes about love. This one may be for the hopeless romantics but it has its point. Loving is the greatest emotion human beings can express and feel.

“When they ask me what I liked best, I’ll say it was you.” — from City of Angels. The complimenting line was said by Maggie (Meg Ryan), one of the lead characters of this movie. Wouldn’t it be nice to hear this from someone you love? It’s like telling you that you’re the best thing that happened to him/ her.

“I am just a girl standing in front of a boy asking him to love her” — from Notting Hill. The line was said by Anna Scott (Julia Roberts), a famous actress, to William (Hugh Grant), an ordinary guy. After hearing this line, William was, of course, swept off his feet. Just make sure that your prospect has feelings for you before you say this, or else you might scare him away.

“I love you. You’re my only reason to stay alive…if that’s what I am”— from New Moon (Twilight Saga). As we all know, Bella and Edward had exchanged so many quotes of love to each other, and their love seems to grow stronger. If everybody were like Edward and Bella, who are true to what they profess to each other, then the world would be full of love.

“If I tell you I love you, can I keep you forever?” — from Casper. Who would think that this line was said by a young, friendly ghost? It’s simple, straight, honest and, best of all, touching. No Pretensions — just like what everybody needs. If someone says this to you, he could be the one you’re waiting for.

“…and I think I’d miss you even if we’d never met” — from The Wedding Date. This was part of Nick’s (Dermot Mulroney) answer to Kat (Debra Messing) when she asked him to tell her about himself. While the line seems to be too good to be true, it’s still sweet and won’t miss getting someone’s attention.

“You had me at hello” — from Jerry Maguire. This is another line worth remembering from the movie, in addition to the famous “I love you, you complete me” line. Impress your partner with this one and you’ll surely melt his heart. Don’t say it to the person you just met; you might scare him off.

“You make me want to be a better man” — from As Good as It Gets. Carol (Helen Hunt) was obviously moved when she heard this line from Melvin (Jack Nicholson), who, at first, she considered as mean and weird. If someone inspires you to be a better person, then that someone could be it. True love brings out the best in you.

“I want to be everything to you” — from Somewhere in Time. When Elise (Jane Seymour) said this line to Richard (Christopher Reeve), it is all so clear that she is madly in love with him as well. This line may be widely used but it still has its value; use it for someone who is really worth loving.

“So I can kiss you anytime I want.” — from Sweet Home Alabama. Ask kids about love, and they will give you the cutest and sweetest answers. The line was a reply to Melanie when she asked her guy friend Jake, “What do you want to marry me for anyhow?” — they were just kids when they had this conversation. You will surely get a kiss if you use this line to answer a similar question.

“You are the only person that can make my heart beat faster and slower at the same time.” — from Hot Chick. It’s quite rare that a comedy film would include a romantic line like this one. It may not be easy for some to understand what it means, but sometimes, just hearing a line like this one is already enough — no explanation needed.

“Because you saw me when I was invisible” — from Princess Diaries. This was Mia’s (Anne Hathaway) reply when Michael (Robert Schwartzman) asked her “Why me?”. Isn’t that reply unique and meaningful? Sometimes we need to thank the people who love us by saying it in another way. In Mia’s case, it’s this line; and it surely got Michael.

“No, I mean I like you very much. Just as you are” — from Bridget Jones Diary. Bridget (Renee Zellweger) was totally surprised when she heard Mark (Colin Firth) utter this line. It was not what she expected to hear after all the clumsiness she showed. If someone says this word to you in spite of your weaknesses, you will definitely be in Cloud 9.
