Aiza performs at Casino Filipino

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Aiza Seguerra returns to Casino Filipino for two consecutive nights of acoustic music tonight at Casino Filipino-Olongapo and tomorrow, Jan. 29, Casino Filipino-Angeles.

Aiza is a favorite performer in the different Casino Filipino branches since 2001, where she never fails to draw SRO crowds.

Aiza recounted her first appearance at the Casino Filipino years ago, “It was a modeling stint, I was the only kid strutting the catwalk with professional models. That was my first and last gig as a model,” she said.

Aiza was only three when she won the hearts of Filipinos after joining Eat, Bulaga!’s Little Miss Philippines. She became an instant celebrity of the noontime show.

For her upcoming shows at Casino Filipino, Aiza’s song repertoire depends on “what the audience would enjoy.” She is known for her hits like Pagdating ng Panahon, which launched her career as an acoustic artist. Among her other chart-toppers are Pakisabi na Lang, Para Lang Sa’yo, Akala Mo, and Palagay Ko Mahal Kita. She also did soulful remakes of How Did You Know, Vincent, Smooth Operator, Journey and Longer.

Aiza also proved her mettle in the international music scene when her Open Arms album became a No.1 hit in Singapore. She earned the title Asia’s Acoustic Sensation after her acoustic-inspired albums topped the music charts in Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia.

Aiza did not allow success to get into her head. “Matagal na akong kuntento sa buhay, basta walang problema at masaya ang mga mahal ko sa buhay, masaya na rin ako,” she said.

When not too occupied with her showbiz commitments, Aiza busies herself with advocacy work against child labor. In January 2004, she received the Child Rights Advocate Award from the organizers of the Global March Against Child Labor, an informal network of NGOs, government agencies and child labor organizations that work against the exploitation of children.

Aiza also promotes the rehabilitation of the country’s water systems. After participating in a beach clean-up last year, she together with other environment advocates, is planning to do an environmental project in Cebu this year, “We are still trying to find sponsors and gather funds for it though,” she said.

Aiza says she wants to help aspiring local singers get a break in the industry. This is the reason why she is grateful that PAGCOR is embracing new directions in its entertainment offerings.
