The girls still have it in the charts
Taylor Swift’s blockbuster Speak Now is still reigning in the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart. Britney Spears has just made a very strong debut in the Hot 100 list with the now No. 1 single Hold It Against Me. So it looks like the girls will continue to lead the hit domination trend these next few weeks.
Take note that also still doing very well are Katy Perry, with new single Firework from the CD Teenage Dream and Rihanna with the album Loud which already boasts of three hit singles, Love The Way You Lie with Eminem, What’s My Name featuring Drake and Only Girl In The World by Rihanna alone. Here are three other females with hits at the moment.
Consistent hitmaker Pink and has released her Greatest Hits…. So Far!!! collection. It took her a long time to do this compilation. That means careful planning to be able to present only the best. That means one great hit after another in the CD and that makes the listener truly appreciative of what the feisty Pink has accomplished. This is a nearly complete anthology. I miss Feel Good Time from the Charlie’s Angels soundtrack. Maybe it was not a hit or a single release. But aside from that, the hits are all here plus more.
The more are the new songs included. These are the party single Raise Your Glass, which is ranked No. 5 in the Hot 100, and Heartbreak Down. Included are Get The Party Started; There You Go; You Make Me Sick; Don’t Let Me Get Me; Just Like A Pill; Family Portrait; Trouble; Stupid Girls; Who Knew; U+Ur Hand; Dear Mr. President featuring Indigo Girls; So What; Sober; Please Don’t Leave Me; Bad Influence; Funhouse and F**kin’ Perfect. Greatest Hits….So Far !!! is now No. 20 in the top albums chart.
Sensational new discovery Ke$ha with Animal + Cannibal. The two-disc set is actually made up of her first two recorded CDs. The reason why somebody would want to compile two albums released only a few months apart is beyond me. But this should be good for those who already have the first album Animal but still have to get the new one, Cannibal. This is also for those who only recently discovered the great sleazy, trashy sound of Ke$ha and want to enjoy the pulsating music that stays inside you for a long time. That is the reason why there were days when you were going around saying Tik Tok Tik Tok to the beat playing in your head after the infectious tune came out some months ago.
Careful parents, Ke$ha’s language can be too explicit and may even be vulgar at times. That is just the way she is. So keep the kiddies away. Disc One is Animal with Your Love Is My Drug; Tik Tok; Take It Off; Ki$$ N Tell; Stepnew; Blah Blah Blah; Hungover; Party At A Rich Dude’s House; Backstabber; Blind; Dinosaur; Dancing With Tears In My Eyes; Birds & Boys; and Animal. Disc Two is the new album Cannibal with Cannibal, We R Who We R; Sleazy; Blow; The Harold Song; Crazy Beautiful Life; Grow A Pear; C U Next Tuesday; and Animal.
Duffy with Endlessly. Duffy’s Rockferry album debut was a wonderful surprise two years ago. The CD sold over six million copies and produced a most memorable single with Mercy. That is why everybody eagerly awaited her follow-up release. This is it. The contents are somewhat different but Duffy’s singing has so much soul that you won’t really care much, if she is softly crooning or dancing her heart out. Fans of Rockferry might think it strange but that is the truth. Duffy, surprisingly, does a lot of dancing in Endlessly, and this girl from Wales gets into the beat very well.
Producer and Duffy’s co-writer is the famous Albert Hammond, whose credits include Leo Sayer’s When I Need You and Willie Nelson’s To All The Girls I Loved Before. Best cuts are the clubby Well, Well, Well, which does not sound like Duffy at all and the sad Too Hurt To Dance, which is Duffy singing and writing at its best. Other cuts are My Boy; Keeping My Baby; Don’t Forsake Me; Endlessly; Breath Away; Lovestruck; Girl; and Hard For The Heart.
