Sharon ok after Big Dome mishap

FUNFARE UPDATE - Ricky Lo -

Nothing serious.

That’s what the doctors at the St. Luke’s Medical Center at The Fort assured Sharon Cuneta after she underwent emergency diagnosis due to an onstage mishap during her concert Tuesday night at the Araneta Coliseum.

Sharon was singing the Beatles song Twist & Shout with Billy Crawford and Ramon “RJ” Jacinto when she lost her balance and landed on her bottom. It took Billy a few minutes to pull Sharon back on her feet.

“O, kaya n’yo ’yon? Ako lang ang may kaya n’un!” Sharon told the SRO audience in jest even when she was in intense pain that worsened, affecting her nape, after the show.

“First thing we did was ask the doctor to check her blood pressure,” Sharon’s sister-in-law Angeli Pangilinan told Funfare Update. “Normal naman.”

Angeli (together with ABS-CBN execs Cory Vidanes and Linggit Tan, Chit Guerrero and Fanny Serrano) kept Sharon company at St. Luke’s until 4 ‘o clock the next morning when doctors let her go home. X-rays showed that she suffered no damage in her pelvis and spine.

ABS-CBN will air the concert as a TV special next Sunday night, Jan. 23. That portion shouldn’t be deleted so that viewers will see for themselves what a trouper Sharon is. As they say, the show must go on, so Sharon ignored the pain and continued singing.

Kaya n’yo ba ‘yon?

Edgar Alan Guzman Bulaga’s last Mr. Pogi

Sakto guy Edgar Alan Guzman: An indie favorite

Here are additional facts about Edgar Alan Guzman who was featured in yesterday’s Body Talk with fellow Sakto members Rodjun Cruz and Lucky Mark Mercado, from the trio’s manager Noel Ferrer:

Edgar Alan Guzman was the last Mr. Pogi grand winner of Eat, Bulaga! (the same contest which discovered Jericho Rosales). He has been the toast of the independent cinema with significant projects like Astig which sent him to the Pusan International Film Festival in South Korea and the Osaka Asian Film Festival in Japan.

Last year, Edgar got good reviews as the lead actor of the NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema) entry, Palanca Award-winning script Magdamag opposite Rita Avila. In this year’s Cinemalaya, he’s starring in the film version of the best-selling novel Ligo Na U, Lapit Na Me to be directed by Erick Salud and Jeffrey Jeturian’s Bisperas.

Incidentally, it’s Rodjun Cruz (and not Edgar as Funfare mentioned yesterday) who is in the cast of the ABS-CBN soap Juanita Banana.

Mea culpa from  Banana Split

Melai Cantiveros was roundly criticized for the foul joke she had made in the Jan. l episode of the ABS-CBN gag show Banana Split in which she burned pictures of stars (among them Mr. Fu and Kimerald) who represented issues that should be thrown into a burning trash with the old year.

The harm has been done, and Banana Split guys are saying “so sorry” for the bad joke (that boomeranged). Here’s the apology written in Filipino:

(Banana Split airs Saturday nights after Laugh Out Loud and Banana Split Daily Servings Monday thru Friday at 9:45 a.m.)
