A project for Heroes
MANILA, Philippines - What do Nyoy Volante, Top Suzara, Mike Chan, Noelle Cassandra, international recording artist David DiMuzio and bossa nova darling Sofia have in common? Aside from the fact that they are all established artists in the local music scene, they are also members of the Heroes Project, a group of musicians who have come together to promote random acts of kindness, as a way to give back, and to encourage people to be of service to one another.
“There are opportunities for kindness all around us everyday”, says Mike Chan, the founder of the Heroes Project. “We just have to remind people to consciously look out for these opportunities.”
The project started six months ago with only 12 artists on its roster but during the course of their first Luzon wide tour with SM Supermalls, the number of volunteer musicians grew to over 30 bands and solo artists.
“On the first leg of the tour that we mounted, we were able to secure thru Heroes, 12 free operations for kids born with cleft lips and palates. We were able to do this through the generosity and kindness of our sponsors, Drs Levi and Ann Marie Lansangan of Shimmian Surgi Center, who volunteered to operate on 12 children free of charge, one child for every artist of the Heroes Project.”
Now that there are 32 active artists on their line up, their next objective is to send 32 needy kids to school for the next school year.
Like comic book heroes, they go where they are needed. “Our advocacy is to spread the message of kindness thru music. Specifically, we want to encourage people to practice small acts of random kindness everyday. These acts cost us almost nothing in terms of effort but they mean a lot to the recipients and give back so much to the giver because of what it does for our character”.
The six main artists of the Heroes Project are Nyoy Volante. Top Suzara,. Mike Chan., Noelle Cassandra, Sofia and David Dimuzio.
The Heroes artists will promote their advocacy once again through another round of shows. Joining Mike, Nyoy, Top, Noelle and Sofia are other ambassadors of the Heroes Project, Flicker Fusion, Cheeba, SID, Farenheit 43, FMD, Tricia Garcia, Janice Hung and more. Catch their performances Dec.11 and 17 at Alphaland Southgate Mall along Edsa corner Pasong Tamo.
The Heroes Project tour is supported by media partners Discovery Channel, Magic 89.9, Wave 891, Jam 88.3, 99.5 Rt, 103.5 Wow Fm, The Manila Bulletin, The Philippine Star, Women’s Journal and Channel V.
