Indigenous dances at Starmalls

MANILA, Philippines - In celebration of Indigenous Peoples (IP) Month, Starmalls in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) recently held the Dayaw Festival: Indigenous Peoples Month 2010.

It featured artistic contributions and practices of indigenous and cultural communities with various dance performances, rituals and chants involving representatives from the indigenous groups in the country.

Performances include damsu (T’boli dance ritual), panasapon banugon (Manguangan dance ritual), dagungguan (instrument playing for weddings by the Jama Mapun from Palawan), Kuratsa (courtship dance from Samar & Leyte), paggadut, dinnuy-a, hudhud chant (traditional dances and chants from Ifugao.Halili-Cruz ballet dancers interpreted the theme Ani ng Sining.
