A style all her own

The career of K Brosas has been in status quo for some time now but instead of becoming restless, she decided to be patient.

Since the Ondoy tragedy during which the comedienne not only got traumatized but lost nearly all of the properties she had painstakingly acquired through the years, the comedienne’s career has been riding on a second wind that not many are blessed with. She herself says that everything is better than ever; that she’s been “restored” more and faster than she, herself, expected.     

“Ang dami ko talagang dapat ipagpasalamat sa Diyos…sabi nga, when it rains, it pours pero ito ang ulan na iwe-welcome ko ng bonggang-bongga. Maliligo pa ako kung pwede,” she said.

And that’s the thing with K: Whether in bad or good times, she never loses her sense of humor. Unlike other comics who turn off the antics and the humorous disposition when they’re not “on the job,” K remains the girl who sees the glass half full and would even crack a joke or two about the empty half.

With such a genuine positive outlook in life, it’s no wonder that K keeps attracting big projects. She recently starred on Idol with Sarah Geronimo, Sam Milby and Coco Martin. She continues to co-host the game show Pilipinas, Win na Win, which is earning her rave reviews.

Apparently, people like it that K has a style all her own and that she alternates between wisecracking and showing compassion towards the show’s contestants.

“Syempre naman dahil hindi pare-pareho ang pagkatao naming mga komedyante. Yung jokes na lumalabas sa bawat isa sa amin, extension yon ng kung sino kami at kung pano kami mag-isip,” she said.

K is not even pressured to be as risqué in her performance like others. Asked if she will be “touchy-feely” and naughty with hunk Jon Avila, whom she tapped as guest in her concert titled K-Pak: The Wapak Concert at the Music Museum on Nov. 12, K said she’s not going that way.

“Ginawa na yon ng iba so hindi ko na kailangan gawin pa. Pero pag tinitingnan ko si Jon, feeling ko… para bang wala akong choice!” she joked.

Truly secure about her mettle, and willing to help out her ilk, she will share the stage with Pooh and Copycats, a group of stand-up comics. Being one of the few comediennes around who can actually sing, K also prepared a fresh repertoire that will cater to music lovers of different ages.

Asked what more she could ask for at this point in her life and career, K simply wishes for things to stay as they are.

“I’ve learned in life that you just have to be grateful both for the good and the bad things so that even the bad things turn out to be blessings in disguise. Hindi na ako nagdadasal na sana ganito o sana ganyan. Alam na ni Lord lahat ng kailangan ko at di naman Niya ako pinabayaan kahit kelan,” she said.  

After K-Pak: The Wapak Concert, K will hold next a Christmas concert titled Heartsake: A Christmas Concert at BSP Auditorium in San Fernando, La Union on Dec. 3.

White Party launch

Hangover is the brainchild of bar owner Raquel Tiu-Ngo who is an interior designer by day and chef by night.
