Kuya Kim will undergo heart surgery Monday
Barely two months after a mild stroke landed him in the hospital last August, Kuya Kim Atienza will under go a heart surgery to correct a hole in his heart.
It’s not an open-heart surgery, though.
“It’s a catheter-based procedure like an angioplasty,” Kim told Funfare Update. “The doctors will insert the device to close the hole in my heart through a blood vessel in my leg. My condition is called patent foramen ovale or a hole in the heart which pumps blood straight to my brain causing a stroke. That was the cause of my stroke last August.”
An open-heart surgery is invasive and will take the patient six months to recuperate. Kuya Kim will be in the hospital for only a few days and then he will rest for a maximum of two weeks, which is the length of time he will be on leave from ABS-CBN’s Showtime. Last August, he took a longer leave.
So upbeat is Kuya Kim that he told Funfare Update, “I will tweet and text while I am in the hospital. I will see if we can have the procedure shown on TV, It will be revolutionary…good advocacy and good TV.”
Kuya Kim and his wife Felicia have three children — Jose, 8; Meimei, 6; and Emman, 4.

• Vivian Sarabia (rejoinder to this corner’s story about The Beatles’ In My Life): Nasa last will ko na ‘yang song, to be played at my wake kasama ng Imagine. Hahaha!...From Bonjin Bolinao (reacting to the same story): I ended reading your column by singing the song. Ahhh, nostalgia sets in. I remember paying something like P10 for a bleacher seat in Rizal Memorial when The Beatles came in the ‘60s. Then they were sent off with a big boo by Imelda Marcos fans because the Fab Four refused to go to the Palace. How ironic!...From reader Amy Wannamaker: You mentioned that David Foster wrote the song I Will Always Love You. No, he did not. It was Dolly Parton who wrote it in 1973 and recorded it the following year.
