Why Vic and Pia broke up

FUNFARE UPDATE - Ricky Lo -

Curtain-raisers:

• Kris Aquino has swung from Mother Lily (showbiz) to Mother Teresa (spiritual) — for the time being, I suppose. While before Kris would text tsismis, now she sends spiritual/inspiring messages to friends (this one included) every day. Sample: Mother Teresa — Everything is God’s to give and take away, so share what you’ve been given, and that includes yourself. So smile, be cheerful, be joyous that God loves you. I’m not sure if Kris has “missent” that message to her estranged husband James Yap.

• Sad to learn (if it’s indeed true) that what’s keeping an actor company in most of his lonely nights is, ehem, the bottle. Has he really been drinking to sleep? Is he having nightmares about the mess he has been into since he decided to choose a younger actress over an older one, such as being deported (A-to-A, as in airport to airport) from Japan, getting a bad press for “carelessness” in public (hic, hic, hic!) and other unsavory things? Does he feel so locked up in a relationship…with regrets?...that he has been reportedly calling an “ex” for comfort and consolation? Oh well, if he’s guilty of anything, it’s just loving carelessly.

• Mura can’t thank his angel, Willie Revillame, enough. Mura got involved in a freak accident while he (yes, she’s a he) was in Guinobatan, Albay, her hometown. He fell from a tricycle and broke his leg that had to be in cast for six months (the leg has become shorter). Jobless, Mura turned to his Kuya Willie (his discoverer) for help (therapy, medicines, etc.) and Willie promptly sent him P100,000 in cold cash.

* * *

They have been going steady for only more than five years so the break-up of Vic Sotto and Pia Guanio cannot be attributed to the so-called seven-year itch.

“They simply drifted away from each other,” said Funfare Update’s Timog Avenue DPA. “No third party, no lovers’ quarrel, no nothing. It’s not true that Pia got tired waiting for Vic to propose marriage. Wala siyang ganoong expectation. ‘Yung drifting away from each other was mutual.”

That is, despite unconfirmed rumors that Vic has been seeing a non-showbiz lady executive. Both Vic and Pia are mum on the matter and they seem to be putting up a happy front on Eat, Bulaga! As if, you know, nothing happened. There’s another Pia in Vic’s life and her name is casually dropped as one of the probable causes but those close to the un-couple said that could not be because “that Pia” has been abroad for a few years.

Last Holy Week, Vic and Pia (“G,” that is) were still okay during a vacation in Indonesia. But in July, they quietly parted ways, that’s why, according to one of those in the entourage, “they were not sweet sa isa’t-isa anymore during Eat, Bulaga!’s show in Anaheim, California last month.”

Ladies (all Bulaga co-hosts) linked to Vic usually quit the show when the romance ended…as in “co-terminus…” among them Chiqui Hollman, Coney Reyes, Christine Jacob and Kristine Florendo. Oops! Did I miss somebody? Sorry, dami kasi nila, eh! Will Pia “G” go the same way? Well, there’s always an exception, right?

Manhunt search is going on

Manhunt Philippines will hold screenings on Saturday, Oct. 23, for the country’s candidate in the 2010 Manhunt International to be held in Taichung, Taiwan, on Nov. 14. The choice will be known on Sunday, Oct. 24.

Established in 1993, Manhunt Philippines is a male model search that officially selects the representative of the Philippines to Manhunt International, a pageant that gathers the most captivating men from different countries across the globe to promote breakthrough faces in the male modeling and fashion industry who eventually become credible youth role models and ambassadors of their countries.

Through the years, Manhunt Philippines has produced some of the most sought-after names in the modeling circuit, many of which have garnered special awards during the years they contended. Official Philippine representatives include Roy de Guzman (1995), Vincent Pinto (1997), Michael Sol Cruz (1998), Alexander Judilla (1999), Richard Stewart (2000), Ric Cayzer (2001), Bruce Quebral (2002), Brent Javier (2005), Iago Raterta (2006), Don Mendoza (2007), and Marvin Wijangco (2008).

The “manhunt” is open to aspiring male models aged 18-25, at least 5’10” in height, has good built, commendable moral background, has no existing contract with any talent or modeling agencies and pleasing personality and the ambition to make a mark in the International modeling industry. Fluency in both Filipino and English is also a must. Qualified participants will have to undergo a series of screenings under some of the country’s top names in fashion and entertainment.

Jana Victoria is also back

Gone for a while like Diana Zubiri (featured on Funfare Update the other day), Jana Victoria is back where she should be — in showbiz. Discovered by Crown-Seven Ventures which launched her in Lagarista (directed by Mel Chionglo) together with then newcomer Piolo Pascual, Jana was in-demand not only for TV and movies but also for commercials (Johnson & Johnson Baby Cologne, Quaker Oats, Kraft Eden Cheese, CDO Corned Beef, etc.).

Then, she fell in love and dropped out of showbiz.

Still one of local screen’s most beautiful faces, Jana is making her reentry into showbiz via the new GMA soap Koreana where she plays the best friend of Eula Valdez. Besides acting, Jana also sings and dances, models and can host a show.

Jana is an exclusive talent of Star Factor Management. (Note: For booking inquiries, call Paula Punla at 0917-5364107.)
