Iza out to give you another scare

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Iza Calzado is one of the more talented young actresses in the business. She has proven her acting mettle in TV and film projects of different genres.

Last year, she won the Golden Screen Awards Best Actress for Joel Lamangan’s indie film, Dukot, about human rights violence.

Iza has had her share of international big screen exposure and working with foreign artists. She starred with Taiwanese superstar Ken Zhu in Batanes, directed by Adolf Alix Jr. She also worked with Hollywood actor Jesse Bradford in The Echo, the English language remake of director Yam Laranas’ film, Sigaw. She reprised her role that won for her an Urian Best Supporting Actress award.

On TV, Iza will soon be seen in two regular shows. She presently co-hosts Sweet Life with Lucy Torres on Q-11 and will also star on GMA 7’s upcoming daily afternoon soap, Koronang Papel, directed by Maryo J. delos Reyes.

Iza is no stranger to horror movies. Her film credits include a number of suspense thrillers like Ouija, Sigaw, Shake, Rattle and Roll, Sundo and The Echo.

The actress welcomes a good scare every once in a while. Her forthcoming acting project is Regal’s horror-thriller, White House, where she portrays the bereaved-previous owner of the house and the second mother of the kids from her late husband.

In this film, Iza embarked on a challenge on her acting career, wherein her role is pivotal that will make a big twist and adds thrill to the film. Will she be the one who will help the victims from the violent black lady? Or the one who will make the victims suffer?

Iza works with director Topel Lee in White House, written by Aloy Adlawan. The film also topbills Gabby Concepcion as the psychic who communicates with ghosts and Maricar Reyes as the reality TV show producer who mounts the program inside the haunted mansion in Baguio City. Janus del Prado plays her associate.

Completing the cast as the reality show contestants are Mo Twister as the cocky radio DJ, Joem as the male beauty pageant veteran, Lovi Poe as a prostitute, Megan Young as the broken-hearted wannabe writer, Jairus Aquino and Sarah Lahbati as the siblings from the province who escaped from their abusive father.

White House starts its regular theater run Oct. 20. Premier night is on Oct. 19 at SM Megamall.

Celebrities will grace shows on Oct. 9 (SM Southmall), Oct. 10 (SM Sta. Mesa) and Oct. 16 (SM Sucat).
