J.K. Rowling donates $15.4-M to sclerosis center

LONDON (AP) — J.K. Rowling (photo) has given $15.4-M to set up a clinic to treat and research multiple sclerosis, the disease that killed her mother.

The creator of Harry Potter says she hopes the clinic will become “a world center for excellence in the field of regenerative neurology.”

Rowling said that the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic will be based at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.

The university says Rowling’s gift is the largest single donation it has received.

The writer is a longtime resident of the Scottish capital. Rowling’s mother died in 1990 at the age of 45, before the writer struck fame with her novels about the boy wizard.
