Music, laughter and a love team in Kapuso Kagay-an

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines — Not all that glitters is gold but every moment worth remembering is golden. This, the recently-held GMA 7’s Kapuso Night at SM City Cagayan vividly showed when the network flew in some of its artists to join the city’s celebration of this year’s Kagay-An Festival.

For almost three hours, young and old Cagayanons were treated to a night of games, songs, dances and laughs. Game masters Crystal and Cristine started the ball rolling with exciting, adrenaline-rushing contests that put to test the talent and strength of selected participants from the audience. Sponsors Datu Puti, Tanduay and Tuseran, on the other hand, generously gave away cash prizes and gift packs to winning and non-winning pairs.  

But what added delight to an already vibrant mood were the free-wheeling spiels of hosts Marco Alcaraz and Bella Padilla of Endless Love. They took turns introducing Kapuso stars whose presence made the occasion worth remembering.

Survivor castaway Pretty Trizia didn’t disappoint when he proceeded to sing and put everyone in stitches with his impersonation of Sharon Cuneta, Nora Aunor, Sheryl Cruz and cousin Geneva. He even picked a young pair from the audience for drama acting that turned out to be a comedy skit. Karen delos Reyes, Elma Muros, Ahron Villena, Ian Batherson and Buhawi Meneses followed suit with production numbers.

Everyone cheered when Rochelle Pangilinan greeted the audience with “Happy Kagay-an Festival” after her Baile performance. La Diva members Jonalyn Viray, Aicelle Santos and Maricris Garcia, on the other hand, filled the air with love as they belted out songs from their album. Their rendition of Angels Brought Me Here got the most applause.

What gave me goose bumps was when the audience turned hoarse and literally dropped on their seats as a pair of “angels” from just-concluded Pilyang Kerubin — Joshua Dionisio and Barbie Forteza — descended on stage to greet everyone and render songs. The young love team seemed to put the audience on Cloud Nine.

“I love you, Joshua!” a female fan blurted out several times in appreciation of Joshua’s Ngiti while Barbie got ear-piercing screams while singing Kiss Me. The young pair did a duet of Way Back Into Love.

“Though it is not our first time to join a Kapuso Night, we totally felt the warm welcome of Cagayanons. We’re so happy that we have given them a great time,” Maricris says. “Their applause inspired us to perform better.”

As everyone left with a happy heart, Cagayanons are sure to look forward to another Kapuso Night come fiesta time next year.
