Modern rock superstars in PULP September issue

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Rock ’n roll wasn’t always just about the loud music and the partying. It’s also about individuality, and breaking barriers and stereotypes through good music and a more than adventurous attitude towards everything. In the September 2010 issue of PULP Magazine, now available nationwide in all leading bookstores and magazine shops, PULP

celebrates not one but two bands which are currently being hailed as the most exciting outfits in the current music scene in this special collector’s double-cover installment.

First in the spotlight is the all-female rock group General Luna, composed of femme fatales who are actually no strangers in the music scene: Vocalist Nicole Asensio (who formerly fronted rock outfit Crowjane); guitarist Caren Mangaran (a shredder who also plays in power metal group Sanctus); guitarist Audry Dionisio; bassist Alexis Montemayor; and drummer Bea Lao, who has pounded the skins for Pinoy rock legend Wally Gonzales. Assembled and committed to make rock ‘n roll a ladies’ game once again, PULP staff writer Karen Sy briefs us on what to expect from the powerhouse cast of rock ’n roll pretties. But don’t dismiss them as a cute outfit just yet... listen in and hear how they transform your ears into mashed rice.

On the flipside, modern rock darlings Chicosci once again grace the cover of PULP as they visit a city near you as part of the Tanduay First Five collective. Join contributor/longtime Chicosci fan Niche Dumlao as he chronicles a day in the life on the road of this massively successful band, and asks the questions any die-hard would want to personally fire off to Miggy, Mong, Calde, Ariel and Macoy. There is no stopping the rabid fanaticism audiences all over the archipelago have for Chicosci, so come along and enjoy the ride.

Meanwhile, PULP music editor Jason Caballa writes about Salamin, the band formerly known as the group with Gary Valenciano’s son on vocals. Now tighter than ever and armed with a brand new musical direction and collection of original material, Salamin is ready to play with the big boys of rock ’n roll, having recently released an EP and their first official music video.

And for those who like their rock with a dash of pop hooks and sensibilities, then Soapdish is probably the band that scores just right. Fueled by their radio hit Parang Si Ely Buendia, Soapdish is not exactly dreaming of the rock ‘n roll lifestyle, but wants to make a significant mark instead... with or without the excess that comes along with being in a band. No less than PULP editor-in-chief Joey Dizon takes notes and reveals the thoughts and inspirations that keep the pop rock band going, as Dizon himself finds out that there’s more to music than just being rich, popular and overrated. There’s actually a bigger, more worthwhile payback even for pop rock groups.

All that plus the most reliable music reviews, thought-provoking columns from music personalities, reviews and features of the hottest acts and events in the country, PULP September 2010 is guaranteed to be filled to the edges with music and everything related to it. Available now for only P150, music fans and wannabe-rockstars can grab a copy in all leading bookstores and magazine shops nationwide.

Don’t forget to end 2010 with a bang, as PULP Unleashed brings you the heaviest, hardest-hitting international acts live in Manila.
