MANILA, Philippines - After suffering a stroke more than six days ago, Kim Atienza clearly remembers what happened that morning in his home after a shower at around 8:30 a.m. as he was getting ready to leave for work.
“Para akong nag-out-of-body experience. I got dizzy then disoriented. It felt weird that I could see my right arm but I can’t seem to move it. Suddenly I found myself unable to speak so I had the driver bring me to the hospital in PGH. From there, I was transferred to Makati Med and good thing I was treated within the crucial three-hour period. I was in the ICU for six days,” says Kim, who is now out of danger.
Test results showed high cholesterol. Kim had six blood clots in his brain, but because of immediate treatment his condition got better. Within two to three days, he was able to gain back his speech and mobilize his right side.
Kim adds, “It was a miracle, thank God, and thanks to friends and family who prayed for me... and to the doctors who helped me... I am recovering well. I will take a few months off after my discharge, for much-needed rest and to spend time with my wife and kids.”
Kim is widely known as the resident weatherman on ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol’s segment Weder-Weder Lang. His trademark in the industry is sharing trivia about animals and general knowledge in most of his shows like Matanglawin and the daily talent search Showtime. Always seen in a wide-brimmed hat, ala Indiana Jones, Kim is well-loved and a popular figure among children and students. He is part of the “Who’s Who” of the Philippines’ list of the Philippine Tatler.
“Life is short, and this wake-up call experience has taught me to take things easy, and take extra care of my health. Please continue to pray for me,” says Kim.
