MANILA, Philippines - On July 30, 5 p.m., Rave Art Gallery is hosting the twin exhibit Our World of Chin-Chin Gutierrez and Mike Austria at No. 5 Scout Magbanua St. cor. Roces Ave. near Amoranto Stadium, Q.C.
Chin-Chin was cited for using her celebrity stature to promote environmental awareness in the Philippines. She appeared on the cover of Time Magazine as one of its Asian Heroes for 2003 and was named among The Outstanding Women in the Nation’s Service (TOWNS) in 2004, also for environmental advocacy. In 2005, she received the Rotary International Service Award for Professional Excellence and the Soroptimist International Making a Difference for Women Award for her efforts as green advocate.
As a painter, Chin-Chin has mounted five solo exhibits: Whispers of A New World: Canvasses and Canticles (2006); Hedgestones of Faith (2009); Altars of Love 1, Altars of Love 2, (2010); and Journey to Love (2010). She was also part of the 100 Women group show at the CCP in 2004.
“Environment and family are my favorite subjects. Nature is being exploited and disregarded by man. Science and social development have gained in the last century. Electricity has dramatically changed life on our planet. The massive use of cars and airplanes has changed the transportation of the world. Technology breaks boundaries. Cultures mix and lead us to rootlessness, loss of identity and widespread moral decline,” says Mike.
He had his recent solo art exhibit Tanging Yaman at Glorietta 4. Other exhibits were Kulay at Buhay, Hugis Ng Pag-ibig, Valentine’s Presentation, Langit at Lupa, Noon, Ngayon at Kailanman and Tanging Yaman.
“I’m honored to host the twin exhibit of Chin-Chin and Mike. Their body of work is amazing!” says Rave Art Gallery owner Manny Valera.
