Bringing all the nations together

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Last Airbender is based on the hugely successful Nickelodeon animated TV series. The live-action feature film is set in a world where human civilization is divided into four nations: Water, Earth, Air and Fire.

The Fire Nation is waging a ruthless, oppressive war against the other three nations. The firm’s hero, the reluctant young Aang, is the last airbender” — the Avatar who, according to prophecy, can manipulate all of the elements and bring all the nations together. Aided by a protective teenage Waterbender named Katara and her bull-headed brother Sokka, Aang proceeds on a perilous journey to restore balance to their war-torn world.

Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies will release M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender worldwide in 3D this month. The film will be simultaneously released in 2D.

Stereo D is overseeing the transformation of the film into 3D. The company most recently worked on some of the 3D conversion for James Cameron’s Avatar.

Paramount is excited to present Night’s vision with the most cutting-edge technology, creating a fun movie-going experience for audiences of all ages.

Night (Unb reakable, Signs, The Village, The Sixth Sense, Lady in the Water) says, “In pre-production I considered shooting Airbender in 3D. With the long takes and the child actors and the way I shoot, I felt the process was too cumbersome. Until the technology changes, that would always be true for me. My only option, if I wanted my films in 3D, would be a post process. We spent the past months doing tests and then I saw Tim’s movie Alice in Wonderland which I loved and felt the 3D enhanced the film’s experience. It inspired me to take a chance. I really wanted to embrace technology on this film. 3D is still such a new technology.”

The Last Airbender is released and distributed by United International Pictures through Solar Entertainment Corp. It will be shown on July 21 in digital 3D and regular formats at your favorite theater.
