Most-loved villains

MANILA, Philippines - If there are villains viewers hate, then, there are also some that they like. Viewers are expected to despise villains, but there are movies that actually make them love the villains more than the good guys. It could be the looks, moves, dialogues, costumes and intelligence of the villain that created a greater impact on the viewers. Nothing weird about this. Everybody has a favorite movie villain. I do.

Here are some of the most loved movie villains with their cool quotes:

Catherine Tramell of Basic Instinct. Her beauty, intelligence and her power to manipulate people are the keys to her success in being a villain. With all the number of murders she’s been accused of, she always had a way out. Did she kill all those victims or did she ask someone to do it for her? Whatever it is, she definitely has a way to mislead people, especially men. Cool quote: “Killing isn’t like smoking. You can stop.”

Vampires from any vampire movie. Ever wonder why it’s so easy for vampires to put victims under their spell? Well, these blood-thirsty monsters just naturally have the ability to hypnotize almost anyone. However, no matter how evil they are, viewers still think they’re the most handsome/ beautiful and gentle monsters ever. Cool quote: “It’s too late. My blood is in your veins” (from The Lost Boys — 1987)

Joker of Batman. He is the most famous villain of Batman and is also the favorite of viewers among all of Batman’s enemies. His tricky ways and sarcastic yet funny lines make him a real joker. Cool quote: “You ever dance with the devil in a pale moonlight?” (from Batman — 1989)

Catwoman of Batman Returns. This female villain uses her charm and sexiness to accomplish things. There are times that even Batman gets to be a victim of her seductive styles. Many people just instantly love her, especially her leather outfit with the matching whip. Cool quote: “I’m cat woman. Hear me roar.”

Jennifer of Jennifer’s Body. Yes, she’s already bad even before she became a blood-thirsty monster. Her beauty and her body are her best assets — the main reasons why her victims easily fall under her control. The truth is even viewers can’t help but say that she’s a real beauty. Cool quote: “I need you frightened.”

Dr. Evil of Austin Powers. He is pretty unique for a villain because he brings so much humor in the movie. His role shows the hilarious combination of a bad guy with a funny side. Cool quote: “…you’re not quite evil enough…”

Castor Troy of Face Off. It doesn’t matter whose face he’s wearing. He will still be the same bad guy that he is. Full of confidence, wit, charm and evil plans, that is Castor Troy. Yes, he is nasty and he’s good at being one. Cool quote: “Interception! Now our side got the ball. Sorry!”

Dr. Hannibal Lecter of Silence of the Lambs. This intelligent and manipulative psychiatrist has one major flaw. He is a serial killer — a cannibal. Although he is a criminal, viewers just adore his manner of speech and choice of words. Cool quote: “…The world is more interesting with you in it”

The Phantom of The Phantom of the Opera. Inside the opera house hides a mysterious man, whom people thought of as a ghost. He is obsessively in love with an opera actress/singer; however, his love turned into madness when the actress refused to return his love. Actually, most viewers felt pity for the phantom and, of course, fell in love with his voice. Cool quote: “You will curse the day you did not do all that the phantom asked of you!”

Hans Gruber of Die Hard. Hans is the most relaxed terrorist ever. His moves and the way he speaks don’t show any fear even if authorities are already out to get him. Viewers definitely know his bad but they think his cool anyway. Cool quote: “I’m going to count to three. There will not be a four…”

The Terminator of Terminator. Yes, he’s the bad guy in the original movie but people just can’t seem to easily accept Arnold Schwarzenegger as the villain, so they like the character no matter how bad he is in the movie. Cool quote: “I’ll be back.”

Jack Sparrow of Pirates of the Caribbean. A lot of viewers don’t know or may be in denial to the fact that Jack Sparrow is one of the villains. How can he be the bad guy? He seems to be the one leading the movie and has more scenes than the good guys. Anyway, although he is a villain, viewers love him. Cool quote: “You seem somewhat familiar. Have I threatened you before?”

T-Rex of Jurrasic Park. Of all the dinosaurs in Jurrasic Park, the T-Rex is the most feared; who wouldn’t be? It’s huge, it’s wild, it’s hungry and it’s ready to attack; but, since T-Rex has a strong impact on viewers (including kids); it was used as one of the logos for the movie. Cool quote: a very loud “roar!”

Imhotep of The Mummy. Actually, it wasn’t his fault why he’s alive again. He had been resting in peace when one of the lead characters woke him up from the dead. Since he’s alive again, he regenerated himself into a more powerful being. Clearly, he’s the bad guy but he did it so good that viewers think he’s excellent. Cool quote: He did chanting most of the time.

“Stay Puff” Marshmallow Man of Ghostbusters. The Marshmallow Man is undoubtedly the cutest of all The Ghostbusters villains. He’s really adorable and huggable minus the angry face expression that he made at the end of the movie, which is quite scary. Cool quote: None, just his cute face is enough.
