MANILA, Philippines - The song Amazing Grace inspires a story of inequality and hardships, and how one man stood against it all.
Directed by Michael Apted (The World is Not Enough, upcoming The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader), Amazing Grace tells the story of William Wilberforce (Fantastic Four’s Ioan Gruffudd).
William was a member of the British Parliament. He led a campaign against African slavery during the 19th century. Though he suffered persecution and ridicule, he fought for the rights of slaves who endured physical and emotional pain.
Despite his illness, William, with his wife Barbara Spooner (Romola Garai), continued to fight for the bill that would finally abolish slave trade in Britain.
Catch Amazing Grace tomorrow, June 19, 7 p.m. at SM Megamall Cinema 9. Enjoy the inspiring historical classic while empowering out-of-school youth and the unemployed as well.
Proceeds of the special screening will benefit students of Mobile Out-of-School Training (MOST), a program of Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines (OB) that aims to equip Filipinos with different livelihood skills such as dressmaking, refrigeration and air-conditioning repair and practical electricity.
