Black Eyed Peas in Knight And Day

SOUNDS FAMILIAR - Baby A. Gil -

I do not have the faintest idea as to how many songs by the Black Eyed Peas have been used in motion picture soundtracks, let alone used as a movie theme song. The Black Eyed Peas make great songs so I am sure that a lot of producers have already used their songs in films or television or at the very least made known their intention to do so.

If not yet is indeed the case, then I say it is now about time. Set to be heard soon is Someday, which will be the group’s very first movie song ever. Composed by will.i.am and performed by the Peas, Someday is the Knight And Day theme and will be played at the end credits of the sexy action comedy that stars Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz.

It is good to know that Cruise has a comedy coming up. Knight And Day’s local playdate is set for next week. His last outing, the World War II drama, Valkyrie was really heavy stuff. It is also nice to see him in something light with Cameron. I think they were together in Vanilla Sky some years ago but that too, was not something you could laugh with, let alone make heads or tails of.

So watch out for Knight And Day, which is something like Charade but with lots of energetic chase scenes. It has Tom and Cameron and a song or perhaps songs by the Black Eyed Peas. And everybody out here knows the Peas. It is the hip-hop group made up of will.i.am, the lovely Fergie, famous Pinoy apl.de.ap and Taboo who puts together those party sounds for the Peas.

The internationally successful Peas make hits like Where Is The Love, Shut Up, Hey Mama, Let’s Get Started, Don’t Phunk My Heart, My Humps, Boom Boom Pow and I Gotta Feeling. They have sold over 25 million CDs, won six Grammys and been nominated for at least 16 times. They deserve to sing for a stylish, big budgeted comedy like Knight And Day. Of course, a Black Eyed Peas tune in the soundtrack also ups Knight And Day’s audience appeal.

Incidentally, the truly prolific will.i.am collaborated with hip-hop star Usher to create OMG, today’s number selling single in the US from the Raymond V Raymond album.

Soundtrack albums are doing very well in the charts these days. You will see this in this week’s list of the Top 20 selling CDs taken from Billboard Magazine’s tabulation of the Top 200 Albums. It is clear that music lovers are having a grand time relieving moments they enjoyed at the movies and on television by listening to the songs in the soundtracks.

The Glee phenomenon has turned every album recorded by the cast into big hits. Also selling quite well these days are Glee: The Power, The Music of Madonna and Glee: Season One, Volumes 1 and 2.

There are also Crazy Heart, with music from the movie of the same title starring the Academy Award winning Jeff Bridges; True Blood 2 from the vampire TV series; Alvin & the Chipmunks: The Squeakel by the Chipmunks and other artists; and American Idol Season 9 featuring last season’s finalists led by the latest American Idol Lee Dewyce.

As for the Top 20 albums as of this writing in the U.S. of A., these are Glee: The Music, Volume 3 by the cast of the popular TV series; Stone Temple Pilots by the Stone Temple Pilots; My World 2.0 by Justin Bieber; Need You Now by Lady Antebellum; Raymond V Raymond by Usher; The Fame by Lady Gaga; Exile On Main Street by The Rolling Stones; Brothers by the Black Keys; Live At The Troubadour by Carole King and James Taylor; Distant Relatives by Nas & Damian Marley.

Icones by Marc Anthony; The Oracle by Godsmack; Sex and The City 2 Soundtrack by Various Artists; Iron Man 2 Soundtrack featuring the hits of AC/DC; Now 33 by Various Artists; B.o.B Presents The Adventures of Bobby Ray by B.o.B; Animal by Ke$ha; #1s… And Then Some by Brooks & Dunn; The Foundation by the Zac Brown Band; and Rebel Within by Hank III.
