MANILA, Philippines - The Mabuhay Singers was awarded recently by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Commission on the Filipino Language for their exemplary radio program Harana ng Puso on the Philippine Broadcasting Services (PBS) Network’s radio station, DWBR 104.3FM.
The radio show, heard every Sunday night, has been on air since 2006. Harana ng Puso is hosted by Prof. Michael Coroza of the Ateneo de Manila University School of Humanities’ Filipino Department.
The award comes at an opportune time as the foremost musical and cultural group of the country is coming out with its latest album titled Patuloy sa Pag-Awit.
The album, to be distributed by PolyEast Records, will feature the Singers’ renditions of OPM hits like The Dawn’s Salamat; APO Hiking Society’s Awit ng Barkada; Ogie Alcasid’s Dito Sa Puso Ko and Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw and other beloved OPM songs by hitmakers like Aiza Seguerra, Zsa-Zsa Padilla and Joey Ayala.
Patuloy sa Pag-Awit is one way to reach out to an entirely new audience, specifically the young generation that may not have heard of or does not even know of the Mabuhay Singers, let alone Kundiman.
