All set for Earth Day Jam 2010
MANILA, Philippines - Tomorrow, April 23, the busy strip of Tomas Morato will be filled temporarily by guitar-donning, drum-beating ambassadors for Mother Earth. It’s Earth Day Jam 2010. Now on it’s 10th year, the musical marathon for Earth Day shows no signs of slowing down. Starting at 7 p.m., sing along with over 20 bands, musicians and artists in a six-to-seven hour musical marathon that’s bound to be extremely wild and fun.
Spearheaded by Lou Bonnevie, recipient of the Fr. Neri Satur award for Environmental Heroism given by the NCCA, UNESCO, Climate Institute and DepEd) and her production outfit Dimitri Productions, Earth Day Jam has slowly grown to become the highly anticipated musical phenomenon it is today, raising comparisons to other Unity through Music-type concerts such as Woodstock and Live Aid. Whatever the case, the talent-packed one-night marathon of music and advocacy is sure to continue making waves in both the environmental and musical scene.
Earth Day Jam will feature more than 20 musicians and artists, with genres as diverse as world music, alternative, rock, reggae and ethnic music. Major bands include The Dawn Chicosci, 6cyclemind Kjwan, Urbandub Callalily, Hilera, with women-fronted groups Imago, Session Road and Up Dharma Down. Rockabilly music will be courtesy of fairly new act Bembol Rockers, along with The Bloomfields. Novelty and reggae will be from Radio Active Sago Project, Skabeche and Tropical Depression. World and folk music will come from Noel Cabangon and Kalayo (formerly Pinikpikan), with the pop rock-alternative scene, bringing in along veteran artist-producer Lou Bonnevie.
Resource speakers representing environmental NGO organizations and volunteers from the civic society will also participate. Everyone is invited to come early to visit the various “envi-tents” that will be around the performance vicinity, and enlist in any of the activities of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources or other NGOs supporting the jam.
Earth Day Jam is presented by the local government of Quezon City through its Environmental Protection & Waste Management Department (EPWMD), with the support of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Department Of Tourism.
Special thanks to The Philippine Star, MYX, San Miguel Beer, Dental First, MAX 103.5, 99.5 RT, Jam 88.3 and NU 107. The event is directed by Toto Gentica. Admission is free.
