Is Venus asking for the moon?

FUNFARE UPDATE - Ricky Lo -

Reinstated barely two weeks after she was dethroned, 2010 Bb. Pilipinas-Universe Maria Venus Raj, presumably upon the advice of her lawyers (who, according to “beauty specialist” Gerry Diaz, “are enjoying their TV exposure”), is showing signs of stubborness by making a demand — you know, that she be reinstated (with a formal letter from the Bibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. [BPCI]) first before she gets a passport which is what the BPCI is asking her as a condition (which is just fair, I agree) for her reinstatement.

But isn’t the BPCI official statement reinstating her, published in major newspapers and reported on radio and TV, more than enough?

Gerry fumed, “Nagmamatigas na siya ng ulo, a! I don’t want to have anything to do with her anymore.” (I agree!)

From reader Isabelita Gozon: I don’t agree with the condition set forth by BCPI. If I had my way, I would not even think of reinstating her. Honesty is one virtue that cannot be compromised. Her birth certificate clearly showed some inconsistencies vis-a-vis her answers to the interview.” (I agree!)

From reader Jesus Sison: What is all the hassle with Raj? Can’t she just go get a passport???? If she really intends on pursuing her dream, then she should just go and apply for one already! All the days she is wasting complaining and whining about the unfairness of it all has become too much drama already. She should go ahead and have her documents processed so she can prove the BCPI wrong. (I agree!)

How can Venus leave for abroad if she doesn’t have a passport? As the official Philippine holder of the Miss U franchise, the BPCI is just making sure that Venus won’t have any problem when the time comes. Mali ba naman ‘yon?

I also agree with Gerry that first runner-up Nicolette “Nikette” Henson is turning out to be a deserving replacement for Venus, if and when. Through it all, unlike Venus who continues to dramatize her being poor and being illegitimate (which are not the issue but the discrepancies in what’s in her birth certificate and what she’s saying), Nikette has kept her poise and dignity expected of a beauty queen. Mabuhay ka, Nikette!

Incidentally, in last Friday’s presscon for Working Girls, 1982 Bb. Pilipinas-Universe Maribel Lopez lashed at BCPI head Stella Marquez-Araneta and wished her dead. Foul, foul, foul! Bad public behavior for a former Binibini who is hurting all because she was given the cold-shoulder treatment when showed up UNINVITED at last year’s Bb. Pilipinas pageant.

Didn’t Maribel reckon with the reality that she wouldn’t be where she is now and she wouldn’t be in a position to publicly tongue-lash Madame Stella if not for her having been a Binibini? And to think that the presscon was being held at Gateway on Araneta territory!

Maribel also came to the defense of Venus. It’s her right to do so but it’s not right for her to act so un-Binibini-like in public. Thank heavens it’s too late for the BCPI to strip her of her title.

Maribel and Venus in the same boat? What did people say again about birds of a feather flocking together?

Madame Stella, next time you, rather the judges, should really be very, very, very careful about picking the winners. Only the deserving must represent the country in international contests.
