A fallen soldier's final journey home
MANILA, Philippines - Kevin Bacon stars in the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning HBO Original Film, Taking Chance, the evocative story of a fallen soldier’s final journey home from Iraq, that premieres on Friday, April 23 at 10 p.m. on HBO Signature.
Based on Lieutenant Colonel Michael Strobl’s journal of, the same name, Taking Chance is a first-person account that chronicles Strobl’s poignant journey as the volunteer military escort assigned to accompany the body of 19-year-old Lance Corporal Chance Phelps, killed in action in Iraq in 2004, from Dover Port Mortuary at Dover Air Face Base, across America to his family in Dubois, Wyoming.
Bacon, who won the Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television Golden Globe for his role as Lt. Col. Strobl, shines in his role as a Desert Storm veteran who recently retired after serving 24 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, and volunteered to serve for escort duty.
In the US, the premiere of Taking Chance had two million viewers, making it the most-watched HBO Original Movie to debut on HBO in five years. The movie also won an Emmy award for Outstanding Single Camera Picture Editing for a Miniseries or a Movie.
Taking Chance encores Saturday, April 24 at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, April 25 at 4:15 p.m. and Tuesday, Aril 27 at 2:15 p.m.
