MANILA, Philippines - Head to the nearest SM Cinema for a hilarious vacation with an all-star cast including Vince Vaugh, Kristen Bell, and Kristen Davis as Couples Retreat hits the big screen.
In the movie, Jason (Jason Bateman) and Cynthia (Kristen) are having marital problems and decide to enroll in a couples therapy program at a tropical resort called Eden. To save money, they convince their friends to join them, claiming they can just jet ski, enjoy the party activities, and not take part in the therapy.
Reluctantly, their couple friends Dave (Vince) and Ronnie (Malin Akerman), Joey (Jon Favreau) and Lucy (Kristen), and recently divorced Shane (Faizon Love) and his girfriend (Kali Hawk) agree. When they get to Eden, they discover that they have to join in the therapy or go home. Deciding to join in the therapy to enjoy the island’s benefits, they come to realize that they all have marital problems after all.
Director Peter Billingsley describes how the idea for Couples Retreat came up. “I think we were in a car about three years ago when Vince came up with the idea,” he says. “I could see the wheels starting to turn in his head and that’s when you know he is going to come up with something good. And he soon developed the concept of these four Midwestern couples that get to this exceptional place.”
